I might be doing something similar soon as my son has his heart set on a Mk1 MX5 with 100k + and only thirty four years old. Well my Father in Law who was an Engineering Inspector as he has a little welding experience. To be fair he has liked them since about the age of 8 so there is no talking him into anything else even though I found a Mk2 with an Indiction kit and a sports exhaust for a £1k less he wants a stock car. The wee Mini is looking good mate.
@DavidMcBayАй бұрын
Nice one John, that’ll be great for the two of you to get stuck into, I still get my dad to help out every now and again. With the MX5s you just need to be careful with the rust, I looked at a few and the issue I noticed was that it wasn’t only the outer sills that were gone, but the inners aswell and that can mean a lot of fabrication and welding.

That retrain looks a heck of a lot better than mine did when I first done one, I didn’t get a single corner done right 😂 I hid it by making some corner pieces from a different colour and put them on every single one so it didn’t look so bad. Good video. Not convinced by dedicated wheel shampoos, especially as they seem best suited to maintenance of generally well kept wheels and have limited tyre cleaning performance so not replacing the need for something like Rebound and offering a one stop shop (perhaps GT Decon is better in this regard). I recognise the user experience is more enjoyable on wheels than say Surfex, but yet to see a compelling reason to have as another product on the shelf.
@DavidMcBay2 ай бұрын
I do like using them, but my wheels are generally well maintained. Like you say tho, for dirtier wheels they just dont cut it and a stronger product like a dedicated wheel cleaner / surfex or decon is more suited.

1 thing I've noticed, on the diff cradle outriggers you have 2 bushes the same size, but they should be staggered as the stress on the cradle is towards the drivers side. Multipack bush kits don't spot this, but if you look at the whiteline kit you'll see that 1 side is larger than the other.
