Didn’t think I could tell until i got a pair of Vuarnet mineral glass lenses… Maui brilliant is a decent polycarbonate but to have a lens that never scratches and is never going to not give you great clarity is valuable. 1 scratch permanently distorts your vision. Also you can wipe glass lenses with any thing it doesn’t have to be micro fiber as again it won’t scratch.

Thanks for your review. It's refreshing to find a reviewer who understands what the use case is for each jacket. To those bemoaning the omission of pockets, buy a different jacket. There's plenty of choice on the market. The absence of features is a plus. If you put phones in jacket pockets running trails they bounce around. If you're running trails for any distance you'll have a race vest/belt with you for food, water, phone, layers, overnight gear. Stripping features away from jackets like this means that they're lighter weight, pack smaller, have fewer seams to fail, the fit is closer, pockets impact breathability/packability as they're another layer. Plus, more features/pockets/stretch cuffs means the jacket holds water, takes longer to dry, and as such is heavier - you'll understand this after you've been out for 2 or 3 days RUNNING in wet conditions in Scotland, Lake District Fells, PNW. RIP the previous Arcteryx Norvan SL Shakedry version, now THAT was a laser focused pinnacle of trail running jacket royalty.

I always found the Beta's AR collar and hood combination a big turn-off and didn't understand why they did it only for this model.

Would you say this is the best (compared to the Beta lightweight and Beta AR) for in-city/day-to-day wear? I think the other two would be more so for actual hiking, climbing since it has pit zips and helmet compatible hood.

I have a question: how do you keep the hood of your jacket such nicely stretched and has no wrinkles? In Japan, all jackets of Arcteryx sold at the brand directly-managed stores have the hood crumpled and wrinkled. Please let me know if there are any secrets to make the hood nice and wrinkleless like yours. Thanks.
