Love the Sako had a vixen 243. I was an idiot and traded it. 70 now and the Sako 85 in 25 06 does everything needed in NZ even wild cattle just change projectiles. P.S. my pet hate. They are RIFLES not GUNS. Pedantic I might be. Boaties say front and back. Sailors use the correct terms. Stern aft. Bow or prow. 😂.

Thanks Paul. From my own experience training range for deer indication first is a better option. My last dog I trained initially for upland game had a range set of 10-15m which made a switch to deer indicating a lot more difficult as I had to keep checking him in the bush to reduce his range. Admittedly I never had intentions of using him as a versatile dog it just kind of happened and it worked out ok in the end but it could have been easier had I used some forethought as to what I actually wanted from my dog before I began training.

Hey Paul I’m in 3rd week on the blueprint. Longline training didn’t cover the slack part, this is great advice and the link I was missing. I think you should add this to the blueprint. Just call helpful tips for longline training. I’ve been reeling my dog in for a week because she keeps long line tight. This is a big help

Hey Paul, keep coming back to this video. Great tips. I don't know how you got onto that first deer in the flax without spooking it? How come it didn't bolt with all the noise you were making? Summer is so "crinkly". Are the deer a little more tolerant of noise than we might think? I've been barked at in the same scenario, might have been in an area close to there. So hard to get in on them in that tight stuff.

Hey mate. Yea 100% deer can be more tolerant to sound than you might think sometimes. And interestingly, sometimes the thicker it is the closer they let you get. It can be something like there are other deer in the area that they often see too so they just think you're another deer coming or something like that. It's definitely something you learn over time through experience. Sometimes you just have to have a go and you might be surprised, even when the odds are stacked against you. When the dog is indicating that keen, and its that close. Have a go.

@@biggameindicatingdogs2188 Mean, thanks Paul. That's perfect, help me adjust my thinking around height of summer, dry conditions hunting. Nearly fell over a lip of a clearing busting through that stuff, to see two deer staring at me 10m below. Makes sense, they're probably thinking "is that another deer?"

Great video. Definitely looking at the blue print when I get a dog. I’ll likely be getting on in the next six months, part of me want to adopt a dog, so I’ve got a couple of questions: 1) any advice\comments on what to look for in a young dog or pup to see if it’s suitable for BGH? 2) do you have some more info on .300 blackout ammo you are using? Currently shooting a blackout, but not using sub sonics.

Thanks for your insights Paul, I watch these with interest, definitely no magic potions it is always structured disciplined training and the necessary time whatever that is to get the end result.

Just a quicky Paul the bird dog blue print can you make it a subscription thing like the blueprint used to be. Makes it more affordable that way. I understand if you can't we all got live :)
@biggameindicatingdogs2188
@biggameindicatingdogs2188 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure what I’m going to do at this stage. The subscriptions have often been a bit niggly our end and things have been a bit on edge financially for us lately so we have to make the right decision to keep everything going. Like I say I’m not sure what I’m going to do there. The more sign ups and support we get the more likely I can do a subscription on the bird dog series and keep the prices down. Ive always had everything I put out as affordable as I can, basically without going broke myself, so as many people as possible can use the videos and I can keep making more for more people to use. It’s always been hard to strike that balance. Subscriptions have been tough since the lending law changes last year. A lot of people have had to get rid of those small recurring costs and there’s a lot more admin in them compared to when someone just buys it in one go. Subscriptions can be bit of an uphill battle, but they are still an important part of what we do. So it’s a tough one. Not sure what we will do yet but it will be whatever is best for the people that watch our videos and for us to be able to keep going.
