No business flying a plane. He should lose his license pronto and jail time would not be inappropriate.

There are two distinct problems here: 1. A rogue pilot who failed to follow safety protocols. 2. An event organizer permitting aircraft with distinct flight characteristics in the same flight pattern. The fact that both aircraft types have rotors is insufficient to permit both to share a flight pattern in the first instance. This is particularly true when ordering a reduction in speed below the stall speed of one of the types which will invariably stress pilots by forcing unplanned maneuvers on short notice in a crowded air space. Even with full compliance by all pilots, this was a tragedy waiting to happen due to reductions in safety margins. The order to reduce speed in the traffic pattern assumed the flight capabilities of a helicoper at the expense of gyros which cannot hover. The ordered speed reduction in this case was a significant contributing factor to the accident. Gyros that stall and risk falling out of the sky at reduced air speeds must fly in separated traffic patterns from helicopers that can reduce speed to a hover, and in particular if there is any anticipation of ordering speed reductions to address safety concerns.

Eric needs to be charged with 2 counts of negligent homicide. I'm so fed up with self-entitled a--holes (whether on the road or in the air) being allowed to get away with such dangerous behavior!

I changed light bulbs on 3 " lighthouses " on a Lake Michigan breakwall to warn boaters of the breakwall. Because of poor weather in the winter each light had 4 bulbs that would automatically change to a new bulb when one would burn out. If i remember correctly the lights only used 2 out of 4 bulbs max that year, ( we changed them out in the summer of course) and there were no malfunctions on any of the three lights.

Looked to me like the only way that plane was going to be able to take off on that short runway. They almost over ran it even so. That's some top notch flying as far as I can tell.

It’s unclear who deserves the citation for first speaking these words, but they are certainly relevant to the story here: “Hope is not a strategy.”

If a lot of the gyro pilots are being idiots, ground the gyros. Let that community sort out their own people. The ones that truly care about the event/sport/lifestyle will raise all manner of hell with the ones who don't. Also, I 100% agree with legal action being taken against Eric, and believe he should be stripped of his license at a bare minimum. Manslaughter charges should definitely happen, but probably won't, with our broken legal systems.

This girl was starting from birth every time she got in a plane. She knew how to tape herself, get it online to grab that attention, but never knew how to work a Garmin? I doubt she died laughing at herself, her own stupidity killed her. Sure not good on a headstone, "Gone for flying a plane she didn't know how to fly"....

This shows you can be very intelligent but life can be full of surprises. Yes, even the best can die from mistakes. Death can come and only Christ can bring them back to life on the day of the Resurrection. THE GOOD NEWS IS ALL WILL BE SAVED BECAUSE OF THE LAMB OF GOD WHO TAKETH AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD. ALWAYS BE THANKFUL AND ALWAYS PRAY THAT GOD DIRECTS YOU.

As a former USAF Instructor and current professional/commercial pilot, I know there is nothing you can do with a pilot who displays this amount arrogance EXCEPT to award him an FAA violation. Period.

Crazy. A perfectly working airplane. Perfect landing weather. Absolutely no reason for this flight to have crashed, if it weren't for the absolute disregard of even the most basic safety procedure, and absolute abysmal CRM. The craziest mistake is attempting to take-off again after the first belly landing.

I would go out in a straight line away from the helicopter then circle around well outside the perimeter of the rotors. I think that most difficult part would be to avoid jumping out with any height as you would also want to stay low especially as it could just dip. I suppose that vehicles more similar to drones with multiple fans shrouded and ducted will start to become more common.
