I got a 2024 grand Cherokee L for my daily, looking to get a used gladiator as my toy. Stuck between this and the rubicon
@PlanItSendIt
@PlanItSendIt 11 күн бұрын
The Rubicon is designed to be in the rocks. They do this with front and rear lockers, a disconnecting front swaybar for additional articulation, and a low grear transfer case. These features really help in all situations, but not for going fast. The main reason to go Mojave over Rubicon trims is the added frame strengthening and stronger front-end components... the 1inch taller too, but to a lesser extent. However, the parts a Mojave doesn't have are easily upgradable. You're coming from a Grand Cherokee, I'm assuming you weren't going hard-core in the rocks because I wouldn't bring one in the rocks. If you end up in the rocks after switching to a Gladiator, I haven't priced how much it would be to strengthen the frame, but I do know if you went Mojave, that upgrading the transfer case is DIY if you're comfortable with tools. Same with an aftermarket swaybar to meet your needs. Personally, I would send my Mojave to an off-road shop to add lockers because I don't have the experience, but it's probably in the 2 grand price range to upgrade the front diff. Hands-down if you're not going off-road that often, the Mojave is definitely the better daily driver!

2020 Mojave owner here. At 39k miles I started smelling burning coolant. Both heads replaced due to warpage. Each replaced a month apart, and after the second head I’ve had this rough idle/studder. Feathering the throttle ~700 rpm causes a studder/jump in rpm. Dealer replaced throttle body, and relearned the throttle but still happens. Next step is getting Chrysler engineers involved. Had the same issue as you wish multiple trips to the dealer and nothing resolved besides parts thrown at it smh

Good review!. I was surprised how much more rear legroom there is compared to my Ram Quadcab. BIG difference when having a toddler seat and a 5-year old's booster. Which overhead MOLLE rack do you have? My kids picked Hydro Blue. The ride quality/handling is amazing. We got 26% off MSRP(58.5K down to 42K). Hard to beat that price and have the same features.

I maintain the family fleet for the most part. Of the Pentastars, only one has had an issue(RH cam/lifter at 170K). Fixed that 40K miles ago. That is however the one vehicle that doesn't get a stern 5K mile syn oil change. I really enjoy my Mojave, despite it not having the same gusto as my 5.7L 8-spd Ram. The kids picked the color and are always excited to ride in it.

I have a Gladiator Rubicon (bought new April 2021), and have 2 minor issues: 1. After about 3 months, my rear camera got fuzzy on me (like 360p resolution maybe) so that was replaced (under warranty) and it's been fine since. Dealershp said it had some moisture/condensation inside, but I couldn't see anything looking at the lens. Whatever, it was replaced. 2. Something other Gladiator owners have reported: The Rear window glass leaking due to water getting past the gasket at the top. The glass was replaced by a local auto-glass shop the local Jeep dealership uses (and was done under warranty). It's likely it had been leaking for a while but I never noticed, so one day I checked (during a rain) -- as I had read someone else posting about this factory/assembly defect -- and sadly, I saw MINE was leaking also! I suggest ALL new Gladiator owner go out and check their rear window for leaks as well. Luckily, I discovered it just 3 months before my factory/OEM 3-year warranty expired. No other issues than those... Personally, I can't think of a better vehicle for my needs (back then, now and into the future) so I'm quite pleased with it. IF I had to buy a new vehicle today -- and as before, be restricted to the mid-size truck segment (and "serious 4x4/off-road-focused) -- I'd get another Gladiator (Rubicon). The ZR2 is close, but wouldn't be my first choice, and I'm not sure (for one criticism) I'd want to live with its poorer MPG numbers, especially the HWY numbers. I got my Gladiator in CO but now am here in TX (temporarily). Of course, the Rubicon is more @ home back in the Rocky Mountains (and serious snow!) than here in the West TX desert (a Mojave would be better) but as I plan to return to CO in 2 years it's fine. And, I occasionally take it out into the desert anyway -- especially as I have zero interest in "Baja Running" -- I just take it slow & easy when I'm off-road...I don't see any need/reason to be "speeding" anywhere. Why? ;-) -- BR

@@PlanItSendIt Yes, at least the earlier model Gladiator owners should. Glad I cheeked mine...if it kept leaking the wet carpet -- that I had never noticed sooner (!) -- under the rear seat would likely cause the floor to rust. Hope I caught mine in time before that happened (I'm optimistic I did). ALSO, you want to catch it before the 3-year OEM factory warranty expires or else the fix is on you! Whatever, from what I gathered it's a fairly common issue for the Gladiator...if so, then Jeep should have had a TSB issued on it really. "Jeep Wave" -- BR
