Some the early "daisy wheel" printers actually did alternate printing direction to compensate for how time consuming it was to go all the way back to the left side for each line. Of course the lines read from left to right from the reader's pint-of-view, it's just that the alternate (even numbered) lines were printed from "end "to "beginning."

English not having future tense significantly expedites the learning process for many foreign learners. Every time someone asks me to explain future tense in English I just say: It's the same as present, but with will, won't or be going to. And boom, they instantly learnt a new tense. That said, as a native Spanish Speaker, it gives me a certain comfort when a language has an actual future tense (like French), it makes translating to and from Spanish a lot simpler since I don't have to adapt anything, and to me it just makes sense to have an actual future tense. I don't think every language should have it, but I won't complain when they do.

I am Iranian and speak Persian as my native language and we are blessed to have a completely gender-neutral language in that regard, even in pronouns. One big issue we had/have according to grammatical gender, is that in our constitution, the president-to-come "must be of the nation's great political RIJAL". That last word is an Arabic loanword, meaning "Men". I'm pretty sure the author of the constitution - mostly one man - put that there just to make it more formal, but he was assassinated before he could elaborate on the gender of the president. Our government is a misogynistic dictatorship. They wouldn't have allowed women into government anyway. The German people should not allow a similar event to happen to them. I think one thing that can be done for the generic, unspecific grammatical gender in German, is the introduction of an entirely new, ungendered form for words. I personally propose you take the masculine form of the word and put an "-i" (or any other vowel really) at the end of it. "Schweizer" becomes "Schweizeri". To form the plural form, replace the "-i" with "-s" or "-Vs" (the V represents a vowel), in common Indo-European fashion. Although I do understand this is somewhat of a big language change and is unlikely to be supported by the German people, expecially with how you described contemporary German politics. I think a simpler choice could be to keep using the Gender Star, but drop everything after it. Just use the masculine plus the asterisk. I think an asterisk alone is enough in conveying the message.
