The way Elvis towers over his father in height, but he still stands there, shifting his weight from foot to foot like an awkward teen in his dad's presence... this is magical.

When I am feeling blue, I watch this video. Absolute class. Can't believe it is more than 60 years that I first listened to Ross at the Ham Pal.

Ross is a serious talent and has a wonderful voice. His career was doing this sort of stuff so it was second nature to him. Elvis really cuts it but remember he was doing harder poppier stuff at the time, great stuff. John Lennon's dad brought out a single in 1965 which is pretty good although a bit of an embarrassment to John. Paul Mccartneys Dad payed in a brass outfit also, and I bet he was dam good as well.

Witnessing genetics consistently astounds me. There's an old clip of his young Dad performing. It looks like an Elvis Costello video trying to look vintage.

I went to see Nick Lowe at Magic Mountain and as I walked in with a few members of my band and our girls, Nick and the boys watched our every step to the tables, nodded at us ( they could tell we were rockers), they sort of saluted us with their beers and kicked into the next song, as we sat. Never felt so respected and Nick and Dave will always be heroes to me for that kinship! This was about 1982.

@@kozmo99 of course. I'm well aware of the old controversy. I was only making the point that "Georgia" is an interesting choice in light of EC's no-no

@@burnintweed Probably overcompensating. He had some fairly ugly moments early on, trying to be a punk and all. Turned up very very late to a gig in my town, no apology etcafter 20 minutes he walked off after the crowd vented. Riot ensued. This was around '78

This song was written before Ray Charles was even born. It was already considered a Pop Standard in America & England before Ray Charles released his version in 1960. This song was first recorded in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael, who also wrote the music for the song. Hoagy recorded it 8 Days before Ray Charles was born. Now I know Ray's version has become the most popular version of the song, but you should know it was considered a Pop Standard long before Ray recorded it.
