The movie was/is cinema gold. The soundtrack is even better. It’s one of my favorite films til this day. My second run of the film, I took it as past, present and future. That his true self is in the future. That in order to truly live and appreciate life, you have stop living /destroy ur past. Idk its story is both complicated and intriguing. Like someone already said, I’m not suprised it didn’t do well initially.ot requires more than 1 watch and you to really think.

Its a movie you watch once. Youll feel intensely, but youll never want to experience the film again. Great for a 1 view, absolute shite for an actual good movie.

I've viewed this movie more times than I can count. I was even pulled over speeding to the theater. Now after 200 or so times it struck me. The pivotal scene that unlocks it is when he is washing Izzi. He's washing a tree branch that becomes Izzis arm. He didn't get to save her in human form but he gets to the ultimate goal of sacrificing himself for the tree. The ultimate love, giving yourself entirely for someone or something else. That's his own whole goal to save his queen. 1000 years... Mission accomplished.

I believe Izzy is god… Izzy is a being that can see through and focus multiple timelines. I believe unbeknownst to herself and Tom, she has created all versions of Tom. Never was it mentioned when she actually started her book. Her relationship represents gods marriage with man. Created to bare witness to god’s understanding and hold their love/light. At the same time it shows how man gets (to his detriment) distracted by his fear of death to the point that he lashes out at God, missing his opportunity to bare witness in the present and to the point he momentarily feels poisoned by the love they shared. But through Izzy’s love/light she developed a way to guide Toms spirit back to Izzy/gods design of eternal understanding that Tom/man was unable to see through his sickened/distracted ideology. Once Tom/Man accepts his fate and finally realized the design his spirit becomes one with Izzy/God. - Izzy/God creates Man/Tom - At the end of the movie Astral Tom becomes Omnipresent and we are left with one question…. Is he god? (Izzy/God) ❤ Even if my theory is wrong, this movie is incredible in my opinion. It is my favorite romance movie of all time and I usually consider myself a fan of romantic film.

I latch on to the parts at the end where it seems the timeline shifts. Tommy heads right instead of left and follows Izzi out of the facility instead of working on Donovan. This culminates in him happily saying goodbye to her at her grave. I think Tomás is just Izzi’s book, AstroTom is a visual representation of Tommy’s inner struggle, and Tommy’s sequence of events is a mental projection/prediction of what could happen if he pursues his research instead of a few more days with Izzi. The only two scenes in the movie that actually happened were Izzi trying to get Tommy to come home with her, and him following, leading up to him saying goodbye at her grave. The rest was all his own mind playing what-if scenarios of what his life could be like if he refused to accept death and gave up on those last few days with Izzi. In the end, he made the right choice before it was too late.

The alien children speak and behave like modern American teenagers. That's another reason why this movie is stupid and can't be taken seriously. I know they are speaking their alien tongue, and it's being translated, but a dumb choice by Cameron nevertheless. On top of all the other criticisms, add this to the pile.

You guys mentioned the 3 layers to the dream and what that could represent, personally I would say the 3 layers are like the 3 acts to a story. The first layer sets everything up, the second begins kicking everything into gear, and the third layer pays off all that was set up before.

I think a good comparison would be Lou Bloom from Nightcrawler. Both ultra capitalist and trying to take advantage of the less fortunate. The main difference between Lou and Marla being that you can see Lou's struggle to become successful, you also have the ability to connect to him due to his vague past, which allows you to create a fitting personalization to justify his evil acts. With Marla, she is already successful, shes just greedy, and willing to CREATE victims. The movie attempts to create a sympathy through Marla's upbringing, but due to the lack of screen time of her mom, her motivations are unclear at best. She already has good qualities about her, being intelligent, determined, resilient, however, she is not seen using them to their full extent due to her inability to handle losing which also isn't fleshed out. For example, when talking with the lawyer, she does outsmart him. However, the Lawyer is incompetent. Giving up his play, hinting at his employer, and not exploring the doctors credentials or connection to Marla. The same goes for Roman, it makes no sense to build him up as someone who deeply cares about his mother to then 180 and victimize older parents as part of their scheme. He is not the most moral person, being a drug kingpin, but throwing away his moral principles so easily does not bode well for the movies ending. Ultimately, there's a lot of jumping through hoops you have to do if you want to like this movie. Such as: demonstrating extreme disregard of the judicial system, characters hypocrisy in morals, clear delineation in character skills between the 'good' and 'bad' guys, or suspending disbelief in them surviving hits placed on them. This movies problems can be explained by Marla herself, "Well, come at me fair and square. You get me in the courtroom. You outplay me." She has never once played fair, she manipulates the court system and her victims, and makes it impossible to engage in her 'game' fairly. The ending should have been a complete psychological breakdown where she realizes she's never actually won anything. Victory only matters if you actually play the game.

I like the movie a lot. I've watched it several times. I think people don't like it because people who watch superhero movies have certain expectation of how superhero movies should be like, and this move is too different from their expectation. But after watching this movie the first time, I have already got words to describe each characters, which shows how mesmerizing and distinct they were. I think it told stories well. When I checked out the online reviews, the overall is not very good. But if you ignore all the 1-stars, the chart looks like it's a very very good movie. The polarization, I think, comes from the audience who have too strong expectation and aren't used to this style (also maybe review bombing).

Just watching this video I realize when Astro Tom is disintegrating from the dying star his stardust showers onto the tree. In turn making the tree bloom and grow alive again. It parallels The Spanish Tom drinking from the tree of life and blooming into flowers. Perhaps in space, it is the tree of life being reborn? The rings, the circle spaceship, it is all part of the cycle? Death and Life. Time and space. Love and loss?

At it's core, the film is about Identity. So, in the context of the narrative, it is about what it means to be Asian-American. We see throughout the film how identity shapes who we are. Yang was a facsimile to humanity and, as such, had his own identity. We meet a clone who has to navigate life with that identity. It's something we create, but is also created for us. It isn't until Colin Ferrell's character "walks in Yang's shoes (empathy)" that he's able to peer into some semblance of who Yang was as a being. It also makes one think about the relationship between adoptive children and their parents. How they won't truly know what it's like to be of that identity and how in the future there's technology to facilitate a medium. The whole film is not only beautiful but also though provoking in the most gentle & subtle way.

The film revolves around the story of a doctor trying to cure his wife of a tumor and the events of a novel written by the wife. The doctor discovers a new anti-aging treatment extracted from a tree that may represent the Tree of Life The novel is about the Queen of Spain who discovers the secret of the Tree of Life, which grants immortality, and she entrusts her knight with the mission of finding it. This happens during a period when she is besieged by her extremist Christian enemy. When the knight finds the gateway to the world of the Mayan tribe, which the queen had predicted, he is attacked by pagans who make him the person to sacrifice his life for the Tree of Life. When the priest inserts the magical dagger into the knight, the heroine stops writing the novel and entrusts the task of writing the final chapter to her doctor husband. The wife believed that life is merely a path to awe, and she shared with her husband one of her beliefs: when a person dies, they return to nature and contribute to the creation of new life elements, like a tree, which makes parts of them remain forever alive and get recycled into new and multiple forms of life. The idea is that death is just a part of life. I think this idea is the core of the entire film. After several attempts by the doctor to discover a cure for his wife's tumor, he discovers it only after his wife has already died. However, by nature, he has not come to terms with the idea of death and considers it a disease that must be cured. The doctor plants a seed in his wife's grave and continues using the substance extracted from the Tree of Life for millions or billions of years to stay alive until he reaches a new era in human evolution. The seed from his wife's grave turns into a tree, which he considers a manifestation of his wife. When the tree starts to wither and die, he tries again to save it using a spaceship to transport it to a nebula, where it could be reborn in a new form. However, as before, he fails to reach his goal before the tree dies. At this moment, the doctor finally understands his wife's idea and comes to terms with the concept of death as a part of life. He decides to conclude the novel as follows: "After the pagan priest plunged the knife into the knight, the knight finally finds the Tree of Life that the queen had sent him to find. He drinks from it extensively to remain alive forever, but despite that, he dies and turns into plants after losing the ring the queen had given him as a sign that he failed to fulfill his promise to her." This is where his wife's novel ends. But now, the doctor understands his wife's idea that death is merely a part of life, and that the knight and the queen achieved their wish of remaining alive forever in different forms. The doctor finds the ring that he had lost before and puts it on his finger as a sign of his reconciliation with death and his understanding of his wife's idea. At this moment, he also dies, and his energy transforms into the Tree of Life. As for the compound that the doctor found extracted from a tree in Central America, this tree might indeed be the Tree of Life that the wife talked about in her novel and which was in the land of the Maya centuries ago and persisted through time until it was discovered in the 21st century . ( These events might not be 100% logical , but certainly symbolic) The film may imply that the hero himself in the future transformed into the Tree of Life, which is timeless and exists in all eras, including the era of the Maya civilization. Alternatively, there may be multiple Trees of Life. The idea of the film, in my opinion, is that the fate of all beings is eternal life, but in different forms and places.

I thought the film ised chinese identity as a stand in for any cultural or human experience. Yang expresses frustration with not being able to really understand his connection to China and chinese culture despite being designed to do exactly that for other people. I interpreted this as being human. In other words, you can't just "make" somebody human, it's the combination of lived experiences, memories, emotions, etc that make us who we are.

I do think that Tashi does love Art but she has difficulty expressing her feelings. She would not have given a child to Art if she didn't love him. She made sure to plead with Patrick to throw the game because she doesn't want to leave Art. Also you can see her difficulty expressing her feelings when Art told her that Patrick did not love her. She was hurt and called Art a horrible friend but she tried to downplay wanting love by saying she didn't need someone to love her. Art is the one that asks her to join his team and she tells him that would not be a good idea due to their history with Patrick but he convinces her because he says he wants her in his staff not out of pity but because he wants to win. Tashi's love for Art definitely wanes as he loses the passion for the sport but she's still willing to lower herself to plead with cocky Patrick so she wouldn't have to leave Art. And I do think that she loves her daughter and her mom, but she's a professional that is coaching her husband to be one of the top tennis players in the world and that requires a huge time commitment. It's the tradeoff that comes with being the best in your profession. The fact that she got her mom to be her daughter's babysitter/teacher and not a stranger shows that she cares about her daughter's well-being as does her wanting to stay in places that her daughter feels more comfortable in
