Thank you! I have to prepare a large document (200p) in 3 different languages. Multiple data stays the same for each language but the text blocks change for each language. Any idea on how to proceed without redoing the entire document completely for each language? My idea was to make a new blank document with only the concerned text blocks to data merge the new languages in, and then merge this with the existing document - where i removed the original text blocks - is there any way to do that?

Sometimes I have problems and it goes into sleep mode. At first I thought it was due to a bad balance, but it's not. Should I adjust something in the menu to avoid this problem? (I use the same camera)

Thank you for this video. I've been using ring lights and my lens is an f3.5. I have been looking for an extra soft box. I also wear glasses lol so it's been a struggle a bit with the reflection when lights are reflected on me.

Hopefully you can help. I create a 200 page document that i created a list of 200 quotes in the csv file to be on. I followed the steps, placed the text box, linked the data source, the preview is correct, but when i export to pdf it seems to export each page 200 times and the final pdf only has a single record on each of the 200 pages. I chose all the records in the export and single record per page. I'm knocking my head against the wall.
@ToddYoungonline
@ToddYoungonline 29 күн бұрын
i figure it out, sort of. I had to create a single page, not 200 , and data merge to it then export, which created the 200 pages, but wasn't what i was wanting necessarily.
@axelbydesign
@axelbydesign 22 күн бұрын
Hi, yes so if you have data for 200 items all you will need is 1 page. This one page will get populated with the data from the CSV giving you the output of 200 total pages.

Is the remote the only means of control? Or is the an app? Or Stream Deck integration

Hello, thanks for your question. As far as I know, the remote control is the only way to control this light. Been using it for a while now and I didn't discover any other wireless connectivity options. With that in mind, it is still a great light for the price point!

Hi Axel, great videos thanks to you I realised that if I want to create for example a wine price list in indesign and later to be easy to update the info using data merge is not possible because is like the example you show with sizes. In this case were are talking about hundreds of wines with its name and price. There is any wat to bring this info form excel and updated later in indesign? I really appreciate if you could give any advice about how would you approach this problem. Thanks for your help

Excellent video Axel. Really great info. One thing I am having difficulty with is copying the Images text in the gathered folder, each time I select all the files and copy - when I paste into a Numbers column the picture pops in as opposed to the actual text. How can I copy JUST the text file name from a folder? Any help would be most welcome, thanks. Richard ROC Design Ireland.

Do you know if this is possible if the image frame is on a Parent page? I have a large document (1000 pages), and each page has an image frame that comes from a Parent page, but the merge only seems to work if the image frame is on the actual page. I really don't want to copy/paste the same image frame to all of my regular pages.

@axelbydesign
@axelbydesign Ай бұрын
YES, you can! Just add another image field. *Note:* the only thing that is not variable is the apostrophe and the at symbol ('@) you can put anything after that and it will still register as an image. For example if you're working on a document for real estate with multiple images you can name each field differently. '@exterior | '@interior | '@livingroom | '@bathroom etc... Let me know if this helps. Thanks for your comment!

The only way, is kind of a pain but the only way I get it done at this time. Once you have your final data and good to output I would "Merge the document" this will open a new document with all the data converted in to pages and then at this point edit those special characters manually.

How i can make this with multiple fields? For example, I have a spreadsheet that has several physical addresses. I would need one store address below the other in the art of indesign, there are hundreds... is it possible?
@axelbydesign
@axelbydesign 2 ай бұрын
Yes, so essentially you will create new fields for each address. First you want to determine the maximum number of addresses then make the fields that many times. For example if you have max 5 addresses you will setup your data something like this: Name 1 | Address 1 | Name 2 | Address 2 | Name 3 | Address 3 | Name 4 | Address 4 | Name 5 | Address 5 Then just connect each name and address to the fields you need on your design document just like normal. I hope this makes sense, let me know if it helps. I think I can make a video that will explain it a little better so stay tuned! Thank you!

If you have multiple of these units, does the remote control conflict w/ others around? I want to get 3 of these but curious if this will be an issue.
@axelbydesign
@axelbydesign 3 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your question. The remote is programable and you can program 1 remote per light to have different setting and have them not interfere with each other. *To program the remote to a channel per each light you can do the following:* 1. Place the remote in the secured magnetic slot on the back of light 2. Turn the light and the remote ON 3. Hit the CH/GR button (the top left) 4. Using the scroll wheel set the channels per each light - example: Light one CH01 5. Do this for each light - example: Light two CH02, and Light 3 CH03 6. Now you will have 1 remote per light, and you can use the remotes wirelessly Tip: Label your remotes and lights to easily identify them _Note: Programing the remote will not register if the remote is not in the secured magnetic slot for each light when setting the channel._

Yeah for sure, you can use it to light up and record any scene you have in mind. My only advice is that you test the position of the lights to ensure your monitors are not reflecting the glare or that you can see the lights on your monitors. Let me know if you have any more questions.

You can solve all of these problems using GREP so you get a 100% automated document. For example, as @BoiceBailey mentioned, use the pipe | symbol and a space after it to define a line break and tell InDesign GREP style to find the pipe / space combination, set the pipe to 'no color' and make the space-character a 1000% wide. This will push all following characters to the next line. And for the sizes: you don't have to have InDesign not showing the empty circles, you just have to make sure that they are 'not visible' (fill / line = no color) also to be done with GREP styles.

It not only works with .csv but also with .txt, in my case, I had to save as UTF-16 Unicode Text (.txt) with Excel to make it work with Khmer language because the regular .csv option does not seem to allow special characters / foreign alphabets. Edit: Just realized that it actually works with .csv as well if you click on the import options beforehand and specify UTF character encoding instead of the default ASCII.

Hi…thanks for this review; but can I know how you positioned this light (I would prefer a picture/video set up); I purchased this lights but having a difficult time positioning it to get the similar lighting effect that you have.
@axelbydesign
@axelbydesign 6 ай бұрын
Yeah, I can do a video update on this kit and show you how I positioned the lights. But I will also try to explain here so you can give it a shot in the meantime. So let's talk from the POV of where I'm sitting. I placed one light to my left diagonal and not directly in front of me at 30% brightness. This will be they light or the main light source. Then I'm going to place another light on my right side and this will be the *FILL* light. But let's use an intensity or brightness level that is less than our key light. (i didn't mention that on this video) For example if my KEY light is at 30% brightness then my FILL light will be 10% or 20% depending on how much fill you want. Try not to use these lights at 100% brightness as that will be so bright and give you super harsh shadows. Another option you can do is turn the lights to 100% Brightness but point them away from you in to a white wall and let that light reflect back to you. I found this creates softer shadows but then the whole room get's evenly lit. Depending on the look you are going for this may work. There is a guidance of lighting best practices, but ultimately you'll have to test until you find a setup that best fits your environment and make note of that for consistent results. Finally, make sure the room lights are turned off and that you are lighting only by using these lights. I hope this helps!
