Having just stumbled upon your Videos I’ve just sat for an entire evening glued to the screen. I am 53 and have just started my journey to orchestrate having wanted to for years. I’ve been writing electronic and pop since I was 18 and your videos are a life saver!!! Let me explain. I don’t have time to attend music school and have a good basic knowledge of theory but what I needed was someone who explains things clearly but not so deep I can’t understand. This video for example is quite simply genius and I have always wondered how to harmonise properly as I usually do everything by ear so thank you. Your videos are informative, great pace, perfect delivery and loving the piece of video from your visits to different places all very calm and serene. Thank you thank you.

About putting all the strings on the melody, what did you mean by, "This doesn't work in mock-ups?' Thanks for the good video.

Great video. My comments: 1. PISTON does provide some very important fundamental information that an orchestrator needs to know, but I agree that he makes things way too complex. If you want to tell me the range of an instrument, just say "don't go above the high E on the treble clef, not "never exceed the 11th partial." 🙂 2. RIMSKY-KORSAKOV. Great book, but I sometimes had trouble finding the examples. The reference number in the text often did not match a score excerpt that made sense. The best recommendation for this book is that the author is possibly the best orchestrator of all time.

Equal tempered strings samples don't exactly render the way real strings players handle polytonality.

Hey Anne, I have a question regarding a practical workflow in a professional setting. I write music in my head on score paper rather than in a daw ( I was trained in the old school ways). Is it feasible to export the midi from a notation software and change the sample library in a daw? When I work in a daw I find the quality of my writing goes down

All the great classical composers were graduates? The influence, discovering the self and the eager to learn and self improve comes from the poor class people. everyone struggled succeeded and left a legacy in a way or other. You are the greatest example and the BRAVE Anne! behind your words I felt the pain and the struggle and probably the hidden tears that led you to success. You are blessed, keep spreading wisdom and knowledge to all of us.

this one cracked me up 😂 “then the orchestrator will look at this and regret their life choices.. most likely” haha thanks Anne🙏🏼

8:00 Neither did I. This library PANDORA is a game changer for writing aleatoric stuff, particularly raisers synced to YOUR tempo vs. sample pre-recorded fixed playback...

Incredibly helpful overview! In hindsight, I feel a little silly I didn't think of some of these ideas earlier... Such as expression maps creating an issue with negative track delays. I think that may be enough to get me to switch over to loading individual articulations. It is a bit of a shame though! I love how convenient a good expression map is.

Thank you Anne! I've found your chanel suddenly and now it's my favorite educational resource. I have watched about 10 of your videos and they were very helpful for me. I have a queistion. At 1:40 in the video you said that doubling of violins with cellos doesn't work in mockups (maybe I've understood that incorrectly) Could you explain this more please?

Great video as usual! I do want to warn people though: Monogram doesn't appear to be a functioning company anymore. Many of us placed orders in Sept/Oct 2023 and those haven't been delivered yet. Trying to get the credit card to refund the charge, since Monogram stopped responding to support requests; maybe they went out of business?

17:23. You said it 🙂 20:20 - this is another essential thing. "What's the right choice ?" Myself for example - I would probably need some professional guidance in this regard, preferably from some established Hollywood mixer. Having multiple mic positioning choices to choose from in DAW's plugins - that's one thing. Another thing is to know the reason why to apply them, how and when. Especially when it comes down to mixing two opposite styles of music : orchestral and jazz (or blend of both, where proper mixing can be a real game changer). 24:53 - welcome to the club !

Really enjoy using your video ideas for my KZfaq videos instead of library music. You make it such fun for an ex folk genre musician with a smattering of classical training to make visuals and stories come alive with my own music. At 80 I’m learning wonderful stuff. Thank you so much❤️ from 🇿🇦 South Africa.

I am a man living in South Asia and i watched this movie "The Presence Of Love" from Hallmark movies when it was telecast on a TV channel here on one day on "Saturday Night Movie". I normally do not watch romantic type movies but this particular movie made me watch it again and again. The theme of the movie attracted me. Its emotional, heart warming, charming and sometimes melancholic. The beautiful and peaceful English countryside is breathtaking. The character portrayals are well done. And it is specially the music score which has done a lot of work here to enhance the true beauty of this movie. The beautiful enchanting music score has helped greately in adding much more glamour and presence to the characters and to the movie itself. I noted that the music soundtrack of this film is performed by a young female musician, Ms.Anne-Kathrin Dern. Her work must be highly commended. It is truly outstanding! Additional music is done by Connor Cook and Esin Aydingoz. Well done, all of you! 🎉 I Wish You All The Best!! Thank you very much for this video! Sorry about the late comment.
