I have old butternut tree in backyard and look like it start to dying slowly. Before it gone I really want to grow new tree. I got some nuts and want to know how to get the root out. I put in fridge with wet paper towel wrapped around. Don’t know if I’m doing it right.

I applaud the site you chose to propose. The internet is plastered with engagement videos filmed at boogie locations, which, for me at least, say nothing more than “Look how detached from reality we are”.

Why hasn't anyone questioned the disappearance of such a freedom promoting tree.? What blight? Absolute nonsense! The much derided and ridiculed by Hollywood yokels of the Appalachian mountain region WERE MERCILESSLY ROBBED by beauracrats who want everyone to contribute to the thieving economy.Anything else is wind of a foul but familiar smell.smh

Are you trying to make your own hybrids from these non-native chestnuts for blight resistance? You mention other American chestnuts in the area, so I was wondering if you were looking to do natural cross pollination with them.

Should I plant my chestnuts now in summer or during winter? They are quite small due to years in small containers

If they are acclimated to the heat from being outside then go ahead and plant them. Make sure to keep them well watered but not over watered

I have 3. They are dwarfed because they spent 2 years in a really small pot at the nursery. I repotted them but I think they have already outgrown these containers with roots. Should I plant them in the ground now in summer or during winter?

That’s funny I have a similar story. I had never even heard of these trees, and then I found the story about them. I did a little research, come to find out I live 20 minutes away from the only place in my state where pure american chestnuts are known to be surviving AND reproducing naturally all on their own. They’re obviously not thriving the way they used to, but they need to reproduce if they’re ever to develop blight tolerance.
@freenrg101Ай бұрын
Tks. How do you get them to the stage with a root sticking out? We have a tree which is about 80 years old and only produces a few fruits every 2 or 3 years. I really want to get a few to grow to carry on its legacy.

If only that program worked. Im sure you kept up with it, but the resistence was too variable, and kept the trees from growing large. And even the ones that started out with imminity eventually succumbed to the blight. So tragic. Apparently wild european chestnut is nearly identicle to american chestnut, but the blight reached the caucuses where they are most prevelent in 2008. Id be curious to see how those forests look today nearly 20 years later. It is said that european chestnuts have slightly more resistence than american, but nearly so much as chinese and japanese.
