Yup! After checking the fuses and relays, KZfaqd it and found this. Bingo. Used contact cleaner and haven't had the problem again. THANK YOU!

Problems with stiff grease resulting in switches that stick is an almost universal problem with all Goldwings. It seems they last about 10 years before starting to give trouble like this. Your problem is a new one on me I must admit. I have changed the switch banks out twice now on my 20 year old Wing, as I don't want to be stuck in some small town somewhere in the middle of nowhere while on tour. They can be cleaned and renewed, and many people do this to save costs, but it usually is somewhat temporary. What I have found is that "exercising" the switches from time to time helps keep the grease from hardening to the point of not functioning. Honda fully missed the mark on this one but it is otherwise one of the few imperfections on a superb motorcycle.

What a great tip! I have a Diamond Star headlight modulator on my '06 Airbag, checked my fuses, and started checking modulator wiring planning to next start swapping relays. Then thought to check internet in case this was one of those funny idiosyncratic things. Sure enough; I didn't get the "pop" or click, but lights came right back. A bit of back and forth and some silicone spray, and all seems well. Thanks again.

I just read where someone has the "no headlight" problem. He wrote in to the maintenance forum in the GWRRA magazine Feb./22 issue. CRC makes several electric contact cleaners that are plastic safe. My favorite is also non-flammable, uses CO 2 for propellant. Very good info!

Use electronic contact cleaner. TV contact cleaner if you can find it. Don't use WD40. It leaves a residue that attracts dirt. Pack switch with dielectric grease.

You just saved me a untold amount of grief !! Last night on my way home, suddenly zero headlights. Only thing I had was the foglights which are crappy at best. Started this morning by first checking the fuses, then thought what the heck try KZfaq.......can't thank you enough ! I was going to start on the low/high switch control first. I blew it out with solvent, then dried it with a leaf blower, then coated all the switches with WD. Great stuff for electrical. Headlights now working again and it only took 10 minutes total !! Thanks again !!

That's frekin sweet. This has happened to me twice. Once in a Veterans Day parade... no headlights. Then a bit ago coming from the store. Watched your video, went out and tried it. Just like you said, flipped the starter switch back, heard the pop and now I have headlights. Thank you so very much. Safe travels and God Bless. Tripp

Thanks so much! I was about to look into the cost of a new headlight or wiring, but that's all it was. My reverse and cruise control switches quit working a while ago also. Is it easy to take that apart to clean or replace switches?
@mtnfmly
@mtnfmly 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeffrey. Thank you for your comment! Yes, the switches are fairly easy to access by removing two long screws on the bottom. Don't try to pull the top and bottom half of the box completely apart because there is wiring that could break if not careful. When the switches are visible, just spray them out with contact cleaner. Here is a video using the same idea: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gt9dirSAx9rGkY0.html Also, be sure not to over tighten the screws when you reassemble the box. I hope this helps.

@@mtnfmly Have you ever had to replace any of the switches, and if so are they very expensive? My cruise doesn't work at all, and I quit using the reverse because it would stick in. Hopefully the cleaning spray will resolve it all though. :)

Thx. My 04 Wing has a loose right mirror. I'm hoping I just tighten that bottom screw. My last run I pushed it a little at high speeds for close to a 1000 miles on not the best pavement but I love the bike. It has about 65,000 miles and it's the first time anything has come loose.
