Hi Ianthe 22, the piece is originally written for cembalo and flute, and I wanted to keep something in my playing from the cembalo articulation - therefore the staccato. Hope this makes sense ;) best wishes

Without a doubt, Ferenc (Franz) Liszt was one of the world's greatest composers, but it appears that some people, commenting here, are giving him far too much credit for this work. In "Totendanz," he only adapted and greatly embellished a (500+-year-old) Gregorian-chant melody. The melodic theme comes from a setting of the sacred poem, "Dies irae" ["Day of Wrath"]) that was used at every Catholic funeral for centuries (but rarely now). Few people nowadays know that Liszt was a seminarian who almost became a Catholic priest, but decided to remain a layman. Everyone who likes "Totendanz" should listen to the original chant that inspired Liszt, such as the version at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/etKibJN_sarUXWQ.html .

Que de chemin parcouru en 17 ans mais le talent, l'intensité, l'apparente légèreté, la virtuosité et la délicatesse ont continué à s'épanouir et ont même gagné en densité. Beatrice Berrut est un être rare et précieux.

J'ai vu ce film il y a plusieurs années au Fifad et j'y repense régulièrement. Un des plus beau film de montagne que j'ai eu la chance de voir ! Est-il disponible en DVD ou au téléchargement légal ?

The orchestra I play in is playing this at our next concert, with the pianist being a youth talent competition winner, and he’s really good, especially for 16 years old! And while this song is not easy to play (I’m a cellist), it definitely jumped onto my top 5 list of favorite songs, probably thanks to the outstanding performance here. I must say, I think my favorite part is at 8:58, but the whole song is amazing.
