I tried to hike up there a while ago. The road is collapsed seven miles before the old parking and the bridge is now a lone platform due to erosion. There is no way you would be able to drive a car up the old road past the parking even if it was not caved in due to how overgrown it is. It’s very sad. I hope something happens to save this trail soon before it becomes inaccessible.

Thanks for posting, been trying to figure out how to do this for a while. The last 2 times I tried to access Persis the gate was closed at Rt. 2 & FR 6220. -Did you guys start where FR 6220 hits Proctor Creek? -Do you know if there's a schedule when the gate is open at Rt. 2 & FR 6220?
@thorschosen27 күн бұрын
We did go to the Proctor Creek crossing/washout on 6220. If you go that way, just be ready for a bushwhack. Following the small streams is likely the path of least resistance but stay towards the left (north) fork as you work up to the ridge. Alternatively, you could take the road that leads to the normal Persis approach and start there. A bit longer, but probably better traveling for the first section. I don’t know of any schedule as to when the gate will be open or not. When I climbed Persis a few years ago, I just started from Hwy 2, but that added a lot of road miles. A mountain bike/E-bike/Dirt bike might be a good option to take around the gate and save some time.
@Sinilindin27 күн бұрын
@@thorschosen Thanks, appreciate the quick reply. It's been locked the last couple times i've gone out to climb Persis so trying to figure out if it's random or scheduled. Either way, looks like it might be better to wait a little longer for the snow to melt out on the traverse.

Great video of a big day! A few decades ago, our small hiking group did a 2-night outing that began in Boston Basin, up the old miners’ trail for the 1st night. Day 2 we crossed over to Sahale Arm and spent the night on those conical rock formations where you took a break. I remember it was one of the most spectacular camping spots in all my backpacking experience! We finished by coming out the beautiful Cascade Pass trail. Thanks for bringing back great memories with your video!

@thorschosen5 ай бұрын
Not sure on “last time,” though there is a schedule somewhere for the public water taxi. We just happened to speak to this taxi at Colomitos and arranged a time to meet at Quimixto. As long as you are looking before 5 or so, my guess is there will be options at most of the main beaches. Or you can arrange one ahead of time from Boca.

We did this about 40 years ago. We didn’t like the looks of that gully so we continued a long rising traverse to the left until reaching the ridge. Dropped over to gigantic boulder fields below the summit. An easy scramble to the top. We bivyed on a huge flat boulder and we were back at the car about noon. The only place we used the rope was descending those rock bands on the lower ridge.
