Hang on, so we're not meant to be into free love and mind bending drugs? Awkward.... Anyhow, yes to spread a little further cheer, in my corner of rural North Wales I have just recruited a 20-something gamer who is dead keen and will be buying the rules as soon as the website is up and running!

The website meltdown is a horror story, specially for a small independent company like yours. I'm sure the international Lardy community will be happy to provide some financial support if requested ... and this is a selfish idea: we want TFL remain in business but also there's a lot of materials that we have been getting for free so far, in the form of assistance in the forum, ideas from the blog, etc Just give it a thought, please.

It would be very deflating for you having such an impact on your business (& livelihood) its great to hear you being so upbeat and positive...the ceiling...and more importantly, the floor will return. On top of that, Thank you all, Gents for a Great update👍

Richard - you are giving your participation in Historicon too little credit. Just having you there - being present - was a tremendous benefit. There were many people watching the Arnhem Chain of Command game who asked about the rules to determine whether they wanted to purchase them. Being able to say, "there is the guy who wrote them" and you're only 3 meters away was very impactful. Simply coming to support Lard America is great. Having you chatting with people, encouraging all of us in Lard America, talking to my wife and me at the bar...whatever...was a 100% accomplishment of your goals. We all debated whether you were making up some of the rules in the game you ran; however, it doesn't matter as it was a great opportunity to have fun and demonstrate that Lard is for everyone.

It was a great pleasure to see you both again. Please accept my apologies if I was talking rubbish in the bar. In the absence of cooking lager I was drinking wine like it was going out of fashion. I talk enough rubbish at the best of times, but when drink is taken I do not improve!

Richard, regarding Historicon I would say: 1. You did more running my game than what you're giving yourself credit for. I may have had to jump in a few times, but you did the bulk of the work and it is greatly appreciated and; 2. For my money, just having you there to talk to everyone was brilliant, and also greatly appreciated. The fact that you came all the way over to spend time with our rag-tag bunch (not me - I'm upper crust) speaks volumes. Sometimes just making the effort of being there is enough, and I think this is a fine case of that. Cheers!

The were a number of issues with Historicon - 2 games I had signed up for were not available as the person running them put his back out and could not make the drive from Ohio. The Saturday night game I was in did not appear in the brochure. I saw one of the game judges wandering around looking for a specific room and he had no idea where it was. I cannot compete with the number of people that turned up for the Arnhem game as I only had 16 people turn up for my 4 player King Philips War Muskets & Tomahawks game Thursday afternoon.

Glad to hear that there seems to be a light at the end of the of website crash tunnel. I for one am actually quite excited to hear updates about Last Sword. I recently picked up a copy of “The Five Rings” and “The Art of the Samurai” and have been perusing Japanese miniatures so any time I hear more about LS it is exciting. I didn’t make it to Historicon but am sorry to hear that Rich felt guilty for feeling that he had not done enough. You were on an enforced holiday due to the website - just being at the show and talking to folks is probably all anyone expected. We cultists don’t demand as much from you all as you seem to demand of yourselves. Getting some time to relax and just play some games is hugely important for mental health as well as for game development and rules tinkering. I’ve always loved the Gettysburg battle site. It is one of the best maintained Civil War sites and fairly walkable (albeit being there early July is brutal - but it does help keep another perspective of what the men there in 1863 would have been dealing with).

Thanks very much, Scott. I'll try and persuade Nick and Rich to spend more time on "When the Last Sword is Drawn". Maybe starting by using the correct name for the rules 🙄🤪

Great rules system and design. I especially like the Command Board, the activation rules, the use of setback and disaster cards, and how combat rating "advantage" gives an extra die (or two) to choose from rather than a DRM. Only challenges are: 1) it is it's a bit difficult at first to follow what roles or failures trigger a Reversal of Fortune and which don't, and what requires a discipline test and what doesn't - at least for me, and 2) Mark's accent is a bit difficult to follow. Btw, I appreciate Mark's bit of OCD between 19:21 - 19:27. 😁

So, 20mm is the Goldilocks scale? Interesting to hear Rich confirm what some of us have known for some time. I use the same 20mm figures for CoC and O Group with no real issues. The problem is that painting 20mm well takes almost as much time as 28mm, and will never look quite as good. True 15mm on the other hand is much faster to paint nicely - about 1/3 of the time of 20mm.

Regarding the fear of 3d printing replacing traditional sculpting - I remember when kindle first came out and everyone was saying that print books would soon die out and we'd all be reading digitally. Not so long ago i read an interview with some big cheese from Waterstones the bookshop chain, and he said that digital book sales had stalled at about 40% of the market and had, at that time, actually retreated slightly. I for one would always prefer metal figures over plastic or 3d resin.

Having not gamed for many years, I found this interesting and entertaining and I’ve purchased the pdf, a few minor points, I’m not sure I like the idea of large groups of men just disappearing from the board, surely they would have an effect on the troops directly behind and adjacent to them, potentially causing physical problems and morale issues, same goes for regiment ridden down! Also the rather rapid and convient movement of skirmishers etc seemly threading the eye! I suppose I would like to see more modifiers for morale rather than just dice based score. I like the speed of play and some of the random factors, divisions going hesitant etc. Still not sure why only one unit can be in a melee with only one unit, it seems to me that if conditions permit a unit can be taken in front and flank, also a unit in line could be hit with 2 columns for a more intense shock, obvs if they pass volley and morale tests.. do many people adapt Gd’A rules? And if so what’s the most common house rule changes? really good walk through keep up the good work.

Still not sure why only one unit can be in a melee with only one unit, it seems to me that if conditions permit a unit can be taken in front and flank A = A second round of combat permits a further unit to join the melee. also a unit in line could be hit with 2 columns for a more intense shock A = I've not encountered a single historical account of two infantry columns ever combating a single enemy line at the same time, I'm not convinced it ever happened other than in wargames.

Hi Rich, Sadly missed the chat but as always great to listen to whilst painting. Apologies in advance if I missed this topic in the chat, listening to the subject on rules changes, or more specifically edition changes. Were you looking at a second edition of Chain of Command? Personally, one of the main things I love about the Lardy rulesets is how good they are and their longevity. It gives me time to get miniatures and armies in place and really get into the game and not be bombarded with errata shyte.....like many other games that shant be mentioned.... I still regard myself new to CofC but I think its marvellous.

Interesting discussion about the 3d prints and its potential for gaming compant impacts, I agree with Richard's point about ultimately when you have something use it or lose it. I also think its more of an impact with historicals as anything madeup can get copyrighted and so your constantly battling against a battalion of lawyers or the Galactic Mouse Overlord. I think Wargames Atlantic has found the middle ground for a company but I can see 3d printing being a challenge to smaller and indie focused companies.
