Awesome video! Will this method only work on aluminum or can it be used on all metals like stainless steel, chrome etc.?
@projectdirtbikes26 күн бұрын
Thanks! It will not work on steel or chrome unfortunately. The metal needs to be soft in order for the polish to work. You can use sand paper to get steel to shine, and I’ve had good luck with basic chrome polish and a microfiber cloth for shining up chrome.

@yk.emmanuelАй бұрын
Dose this work on chrome too
@projectdirtbikesАй бұрын
Probably not. The scotch brite would scratch the chrome. I’d recommend chrome polish. If your chrome is rusty, you can use Coca-Cola and aluminum foil. Sounds weird but it’s true. There’s a guy on KZfaq that made a good video on that. I’d search that up if you have some rust to remove.
@jayden967Ай бұрын
If the aluminum has a bit of rust spots, can i use a 1k or 3k grit sand paper and then metal polish?
@projectdirtbikesАй бұрын
Aluminum doesn’t rust. It oxidizes which produces a white powdery product. This method will work on oxidized aluminum.

Hello.. I have acquired a BW200 ES.. The switch is not a toggle likev yours but is a key type switch.. It comes apart into 3 pieces on it own and does not seem to work correctly.. Is your toggle switch from factory or a add on.. My needed switch is no longer available and says it is a special switch.. Can you help me on this.. Thank You,, Great helpful video.
@projectdirtbikesАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment. It’s a generic aftermarket switch that was installed by a previous owner. What year is your bike? How many wires go to your switch? You should be able to wire up a switch like the one on mine. If you search up “waterproof on/off toggle switch” you’ll get some good options. Another route you could take is buy a similar generic keyed ignition switch and wire it up in place of the old one. You would want to make sure the switch internals are the same though.
@faller49Ай бұрын
@@projectdirtbikes It has 4 wires.. I am guessing it is a 1987 bike.. The switch I have put back together so that it has on and off but I am sure that it has pieces missing so not sure if it is doing what it is supposed to.. Battery is also toast but with a jumper I can get the engine to turn over. Have not checked for spark and I do know the carb needs taken apart.. I was told it leaked gas and would not stay running.. Really Appreciate your comeback.. hard to find much info on these. I did come a crossed a manual download on line.
@projectdirtbikesАй бұрын
@@faller49 Does the kick starter work? I’d use that instead of the electric starter for troubleshooting to avoid burning up the starter. Give it a few kicks with each switch position just to see if it has any spark. If there is no spark and you believe that the ignition switch is still the problem, try to find a wiring diagram of your starting system that includes the ignition switch. Might be one in your manual if it’s a service manual. With that, you can cut the switch off and manually connect the correct wires to continue troubleshooting. Basically hot wire it. I’d also suggest decoding your vin to make sure it’s an 87. There may not be many differences from year to year, but there also could be, so it’s always good to be positive on the year. Yeah it sure is annoying on how little info is out there.
@faller49Ай бұрын
@@projectdirtbikes yes the kick starter does work.. I was wrong on the year. It is a 1986 bu the serial number. I doing some clean up and then will start back with the running part again.. hot wire idea is hood. Thsnks.Thanks.. my manual does have section for the ES model with a diagram. And got to say.. I do appreciate your input and help.

Thinking about getting a 1999 yz80 I’m 14 and I’m pretty tall do you think that I could pull wheelies on it or should I look for something else
@projectdirtbikesАй бұрын
Go for it! It’s a great little ripper. It’s a similar size to a crf150. It would pop wheelies when I I had it. If you have some riding skill already, you could also look at getting a 125

I got the same results with just the polish and about half the work. I’m gonna try the WD-40 and see if that enhances it. Thanks for the tip.
@projectdirtbikes2 ай бұрын
Glad to help. I’ve gotten good results with just the polish too, but the wd40 really helps when the aluminum has any oxidation on it. The wd40 and scotch brite removes the oxidation/corrosion so when you go to polish, you are polishing pure aluminum and not the oxidation on top of the aluminum.
