Hi Paul...Kevin Here Thanks for this informative video. One question. My same unit has a strange smell when off only .. soI called the company and she said to order Mad Tabs and clean the drain pad and put these self cleaning tablets in the pan. My question is. @paulethier3416
@paulethier3416 Күн бұрын
Hi Kevin. The drain pan collects the condensation that comes off the coil. That condensation runs out of the drain hose. The tabs are likely to kill mold and to disinfect. I've not had to do that yet. The drain pan should be below the coil and behind the cage fan. Because the tabs are used for routine maintenance it should not be hard to find the pan. Sorry, I'm not that helpful, I'm self taught with most of this stuff.

There is no such thing as a trucking community anymore. The real truck drivers that could handle the job have been hazed out by micromanaging college grads and migrant workers. The trucks are all simplified and weak. They fall apart once a week. The mechanics have all become a walking parts catalog. But what really killed CB radio isn't what happened in the trucking industry. What killed it was the ignorant pirates that muddy up channel 19 with their outlaw base stations.

I did the same type of thing in 1999 after hurricane Floyd. I used a cheap Marine Deep Cycle battery from Walmart, 300 watt inverter, a car battery charger, and a 2500 watt generator. Since the inverter was so small, I ran a small fan, 12” TV/VCR combo, and a 5 watt CFL light bulb in a lamp. Every few hours I would run the generator and charge up the battery. At that time, I plugged in my refrigerator and upright freezer and ran them off the generator. I ended up using about a gallon a day. The new fast charging power stations are a game changer as they can fully charge in a little more than an hour.

Get two mechanical three prong appliance timers. Set them both to 12:00 am. Set the timers so one comes on for an hour and then off three hours, then back on for an hour off an hour. Set the other timer the same way, but offset by two hours. So it works like this: Plug in both time zero off. Time 1 hour #1 on, #2 off Time 2 hour both off Time 3 hour #2 on, #1 off Time 4 hour both off Time 5 hour #1 on #2 off And continue for the entire 24 hour. You won’t save 1/2 the power because when the refrigerator is on, it will run harder, but you will use about 80% of the power and not have to worry about having not on at the same time.

Lots of jamming going on now to and CB "wars" have also turned the truckers that did listen to just turn the radio off. Sad. I loved all the traffic that used to be out there when traveling the I-90. New York State is particularly isolationist, and as such, not happy with CB. Warmer climates see a lot more. It almost collapses in roadsalt season. Use a CB radio with an RF gain instead of a squelch. Weak receive is important. FM on CB is sabotage. It works horrible. SSB is outrageously capable. Be picky what antenna model you buy. Talk softer when you drive than when you are silent. Keep a mobile at home, in a comfortable spot. CB use ignites more CB use. Also take them in boats, camping.

On a moderate day a single solar panel of 200ish watts would extend that battery run time dramatically, so you'd probably get a whole day of power. But as you get to having a day of power the efficiencies of scale that make whole house solar viable come into the planning.

GMRS, when created as FRS, was super short range radio. It was basically 2 watt or less walkie talkies mostly used by hikers, skiers, and others who wanted person to person communications without hassle. GMRS with the higher power (typically up to 5 watts, although 50 watts is allowed on some channel) still was mostly used as point to point "family" radios. I don't think it has generated enough interest and enough mass appeal to be anything other than that. CB radio overall is pretty dead now, unless there is something specific going on (traffic jam, etc). Also, with the use of FM approved, you may find that operators have moved in that direction. Finally, let's not forget cell phone based apps. Zello is awesome to be honest. Works pretty much everywhere, doesn't have range limits, doesn't have skip, interference, or any crap like that, and you install nothing except to put your phone on a cradle so you can use it that way. Zello based walkies and traditional "cb looking" radios with PTT mics are widely available and cheap as chips. So yeah, radio is nice, but it really is a rotary dial level communications tool now.

We had purchased the Ecoflow Delta 2 Max w/220 Bifacial panels and the 800w Alternator charger to be used for boon docking with our RV a few weeks ago. We also have a Honda EB3000c generator. As luck would have it, a nice storm rolled thru town and about 350,000 folks lost power. Ours was out for 73 hours. Basically used them identical to your test scenario, running the fridge, coffee maker, T-Mobile internet, couple of fans and lights. First day we charged the Delta using the alternator charger hooked to our Jeep. Took over 3.5 hours to fully charge an almost depleted battery. Wasn't crazy about having to run the Jeep that long. Next couple days we would recharge using the generator for about an hour in the morning and then top it off for an hour in the evening. Didn't bother hooking up the solar panels as all 3 days were overcast, but at even max220w, it would have taken a long time to recharge. Have to say this setup, ecoflow and generator combo, worked very well and would highly recommend it as viable solution.

@Maaniic you make a very valid point, I was thinking the same thing. You may actually save power by leaving the fridges plugged in and 'maintaining' temperature by kicking on the compressor only periodically to cool. By unplugging and letting the fridges warm up in temperature, when they are finally plugged in the compressors will run continually until the desired temperature is reached. You can determine which strategy is most efficient by using a watt meter. It would be interesting to see those results.

We went completely to the next level and went completely off-grid solar. With our own large battery storage system and several solar panel arrays ground mounted. We also have very high capacity battery chargers that give us 13 KW of battery charging capacity for Rapid charging in the event that we need to run a generator. A generator is most efficient when it's loaded fully or close to full load. Running a generator to run a few lights and a TV is very inefficient. But with the battery charging method we only have to run the generator for an hour or so to charge up the battery Bank with the high capacity charging. And when the weather is good we don't have to use a generator at all because solar provides all the energy we need.

Wouldn't that 12/3 extension cord be max rated at 20A? If both refrigerators are running, you could be at 10-12 amps alone. IMHO, and what I've done on my system, is to get as much off electricity as possible during an outage. Popcorn? Sure, but use a stove top popper. Need to cook and you normally use an electric range, fire up the grill. Things like ranges, space heaters and microwaves just use way too much energy when you are on battery and don't know how long you will need to use the battery.

GMRS is good for family communication or for emergencies, or communication with your trail buddies. You can get a lot of power output, and a whole family license from the FCC. I have been able to communicate with my home base with my mobile up to 12 miles, which is good if cell phones go down, and they have. On open roads I have gotten up to 25 miles, and double that on a repeater. Also consider there is Narrow band and wide band, and different DB antennas. 6 DB antennas are good for open areas whereas 3 DB antennas are good for city use, so keep that in mind while traveling. I use both antennas and are able to switch from one to the other. Hitting a repeater is the key, if you want to possibly talk to others, so program your radio with the repeater in your area and repeaters along your route, you can't find repeater locations by going to mygmrs.com. What's also nice is that I have been able to pick up ham operators from other states, which is good to be able to hear what's going on in other parts of America, especially during emergencies, also with the right handheld, you can program it to receive emergency, police, fire,.frequency, like a scanner. Something you can't do with CB. Overall I think GMRS is way better, more transmission power, you can use repeaters and doesn't require a test for a license.

Cool demo. I'm always amazed that people have to have their internet working. Where do they think the power is going to come from to supply the signal to the house during an outage?

@@dougofford6567 Thanks for commenting. I’m not sure how our Internet service is powered, but it usually will stay up for a while and then it goes out. Anything longer than a hour or two it will go out.

From infrastructure that has power. I've been through multiple week outages a couple of times and internet never failed.

A lot of internet services have battery backup (not all).We live in Australia and our internet does. As long as we can power our end, But after a couple of days without power the batteries can go flat and lose the internet. Same situation with cell towers.

Your honda isn't "making 2200 watts" nonstop, it's just that at minimum output it still burns quite a bit of fuel. It burns much more fuel when making 2200 watts or when charging the power station. If nothing else, you can reduce the generator runtime and noise of a generator with the power station. More time silent is good.

That’s what I was trying to say but you explained it way better than I did. 😂😂😂 Thanks for leaving your comment.

Thanks for the video, am looking into CB. I just did a 6000 mile vacation from TN to ND, SD, Yellowstone NP, Teton, and back home. Was listening to ham 146.52 for the entire trip, completely dead. 30 miles into the trip my power cord to the Midland GMRS broke in the 12 volt socket so out of luck there.

Thanks for commenting. Other people on here have said that CB is kinda quiet until there is bad weather, traffic or an accident. We didn’t experience any of that so it was pretty quiet.

Only for traveling. If you have a group of friends or family and are traveling or hunting or whatever GMRS works great.

I think if you plugged in several 100 watt solar panels --1,2,3,4 panels into your ECO Flow power station you could get many more hours of operation from your power station.

@@user-zq9ym3ue2p yes it will take up to 1000 watts of solar charging plus it will take two additional batteries that max’s it out around 6000Wh of capacity. In theory could go forever. Thanks for commenting

It would be far less than nameplate, especially in NY, especially in the winter. I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't in the range of 600-1.2wh per day. Solar has a place, but treed lots in northern latitudes during the winter isn't it.

@@kcgunesq I'm hoping gets some panels soon. They are definitely part of the puzzle for this. I think I'm going to add the additional battery first. Thanks for commenting.

I'm a driver, here's what's going on. We use cell phones to kill time with our friends, but when weather or construction slows us down we go back to channel 19. CB is not dead! Heck they just added FM to the new radios. Hope this helps! I was gifted some Cobra walkie talkies trying to learn about these. Pretty fun 👍

Thanks for the comment and for sharing. When we traveled, we didn’t have any bad weather any construction issues or any bad accidents so there was no chatter at all on the CB. That confirms your experience. Good luck with the walkie-talkies have fun.
