Where is that absolutely beautiful city of Seattle so many still remember. It is heartbreaking what has become of what was I believe America's most magnificent city.... the Emerald City!

My wife and I are over 65 years old and three (3) of our Adult children and 2 grand children also live here. So why were we encouraged to go all Electric years ago because Hyro power was touted to be so inexpensive. Well shame on us because even though we have Natural Gas Heat and Natrual Gas Dryers. our Electric Bill forces us to make Serious decisions about food, Health Care or Electricity. You can't use Solar as a fallback position to mitigate the cost of Electricity. I am 76 years old and according to the Solar sales people we wouldn' t have to pay anything for Solar until 17 years in the future , by then I suspect I would be pushing up Daises and my wife would be left holding the bag. Is lying the way you go, or should I search out an outlet for Buffalo Chips to fix your problem.

I've always wondered how Seattle and many places in the eyes of my grandparents and great grandparents looked. Nowadays, 1980s Seattle/Washington is considered antique compared to today. Thanks for the awesome footage!

I lived on Bainbridge Island 1973 and 1974, just opposite of Seattle. The ferry ride to this great city was always a joy. Many times we could observe a school of orcas crossing the ferry´s path. The video shows Seattle like I used to know it - thanks!

I went to visit Seattle from the East Coast in 1976 right after college - a friend had invited me. I ended up staying 9 years and consider those probably the best years of my life. Talk about powerful emotions as I see this movie filmed the year I arrive there. Sadly, I'm one of those who feels Seattle lost its soul with the influx of big tech and the multitude who came not for the place but for the money. When I arrived there in 1976, Seattle had been voted the most livable city in the United States. It sure ain't anymore... Thanks for posting this.

0:31 back in the day city leaders had no problem building a Light Rail Line from downtown Seattle to downtown Everett. Yet today Sound Transit still hasn’t done this & never had any intention of honoring their promise & instead Snohomish County taxpayers were swindled by Sound Transit to subsidize the cost of building Light Rail to Redmond & putting trains over tje floating bridge which required billions more in R&D because the bridge was never designed for trains & heavy rail. So far they are constructing 4 miles into Snohomish County to Lynnwood. Despite the fact there are existing rail lines crossing the Snohomish River to Woodinville from Snohomish, Sound Transit need only build another mile to extend rail from Redmond to Snohomish where another railroad grade acts as the centennial trail which ends at Skagit County which could easily at affordable cost take Light Rail to Arlington which is a fast growing area for industry & future housing. Sound Transit, it seems would rather build unaffordable transit with plans geared towards Seattle & no concerns toward the counties who subsidize their poor planning.

Those fake film scratches and streaks -- good grief, back in the day, those were undesirable. Now they add them to videos? IQ!

This film was created in the 1970s. The copy retained by the Engineering Department and transferred to the Archives was very scratched (which is indeed undesirable, but an unfortunate reality in this case). No effects were added to the video transfer of this film.

I went to Seattle in 1970 and at first I didn’t like it. That was until the beautiful spring of 1971 and fell in love with it. It was beautiful until the Californians came up in the 90s. Then it just grew out of control. I left in 1994. Now the drugs and homeless are everywhere.
