My acrylic x-22 clear melts when i try rust effects. Im using same product but i used testors 1148 thinner. Any idea why it melts my acrylic paint? Or is my thinner to strong?

This is an inspiration and I'm finally getting ready to try my own build after a couple of years of getting pieces here and there. I had two questions after studying the video repeatedly: 1. It looked like you were using two colors of grey when you painted the flight deck. Do you remember what the slightly lighter color was? 2. You did some detailing where you said it was 70% ivory black and 30 burnt umber. What brand paint were you using for those? Thanks again for the inspiration! I've been doing models with my son over summer break and we're looking forward to tackling this diorama!

Where can I get the us blue gray paint?
@joegrieco7343Ай бұрын
Joe, thanks for this video. It’s been really helpful as I’m building a similar curio cabinet. Quick question, did the adhesive side of that foam stick to the handle or the glass?
@joegrieco7343Ай бұрын
I ask because with mine, the way it was packaged was with the adhesive part facing the inside of the handle, which would make sense if I ever wanted to remove the handle from the glass without leaving the adhesive behind. But the directions aren’t clear and I couldn’t tell from the video which way you did it. Just curious.
@joekmodels24 күн бұрын
Glad you found it helpful. It’s been awhile but I think I stuck it to the glass.

So you are sanding the top to get rid of the lines ? What grit you use ?
@joekmodelsАй бұрын
I don’t remember the exact grit but it’s usually starting in the 200s and then out to 400 or 500 but I always check with primer after I’m done sanding to make sure the lines gone

I’m in the process of building this kit. I was thinking that it would be better if the large decals on the wings are applied by separating each character or number, trim off the extra clear portion of the decal and then affix each to the aircraft. This would enable a more natural look then having an oversized decal. Do you or anyone else have any thoughts or comments about this different approach?
@joekmodelsАй бұрын
That’s a smart way to do it and the real only way to completely eliminate seeing the difference after applied. I say go for it

I've just finished putting the decals on my zero and they had the same problems as yours. Especially the x-183. I had to patch some pieces together to make them work.
@joekmodels3 ай бұрын
Yeah I forgot about this. Looks like I had some issues with the decals. The masking worked better anyway for the chipping! When life gives you lemons..😎

You're right about putting in the effort and research to make the kit as realistic as possible despite the fact that it inly cost 10 bucks. The end result is absolutely stunning. 👍 I'll have to go and watch the Wildcat video now because i really like what you did with the wing folded back, and how you achieved the subtle shading.

The wildcat is one of my favorite pieces because of all the layered effects I tried with it. Having the one wing back also makes it stand out. Thanks again for your support ☺️

If you go to 1:44 in the video where the decal layout is, it does not show roundels on the bottom so I did not include them.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I'm really enjoying this build series. The format is great as well. Rather than spending hours watching someone building the kit - which I quite like as well - you've completed a stage, then showed us your work and how you got to that point. The extra detailing and research you've put into this cheap little kit is commendable indeed. 👍

Pledge does what? Pannel line filler?
@joekmodels4 ай бұрын
I put the pledge on to protect the paint work and give it a gloss surface to apply the washes. When I use enamels for the washes it won’t break through the protected layer of pledge

Dust proofing?
@joekmodels4 ай бұрын
Yes, that is the idea. It was not 100% dust proof (small gaps between door glass), but better than leaving them out in the open.
@davidspiegler68965 ай бұрын
This is how I plan to do it. And use oils to fade paint with white, dot filter, exhaust stains and dirtier underside.
@joekmodels4 ай бұрын
Awesome, I’m a big fan of using oils for the weathering before applying the final dull coat. I find it to be nicely realistic and fairly forgiving as long as taking precaution against fingerprints.
@ScreamingLordStokes5 ай бұрын
Great job! It's a lovely model only let down by the poor canopy fit. Airfix seem to have a problem with ill fitting canopy's - the Me109 e3 being another.
@joekmodels4 ай бұрын
Agree 100%. It can be overcome but I had to experiment back then coming back to the hobby the best methods. Appreciate you checking out the video! I more recently built the 1/48 Tamiya version on my channel, and that I consider to be the culmination of what I learned on these earlier builds.
