Did you buy it new? If so they should be able to send you one, if it’s second hand then I’d reach out to Body Glove as they likely have them for sale. You can also try a paddle board shop or online as many fin boxes are the same so another company’s fin will also work.

I have a pair of Scarpa Freedom boots and they are a little to upright for me. Can the forward lean be increased? If so, how?
@Backcountryskiingcanada
@Backcountryskiingcanada 2 ай бұрын
Most AT boots have a forward lean adjustment built into the ski/walk mechanism on the outside of the boot's spine. You can typically remove the plate that is found under the lock mechanism, unscrew it and flip it around to get more or less forward lean. Not sure how it works on these boots as they are quite old now. Hopefully this helps.

How does 130+ compare to the flex on non-touring boots?
@Backcountryskiingcanada

They are incredibly stiff but still progressive in the upper flex, could easily be a resort boot that is light enough to tour. Alpine boots are likely more stiff but also so much heavier and not as comfy.

@Backcountryskiingcanada
@Backcountryskiingcanada 4 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video. There is no hard and fast rule as to how much force exerted on the column is related to safety. Given that everyone is different we will all pull at different rates of force and then we also all have different thresholds for what we consider to be safe. Because of this you really just have to gain some experience digging pits and performing this and other tests, just like you need to gain experience in other aspects of backcountry travel. This test is just one of many indicators you would use to make a 'go' or 'no go' verdict. All of these things will be taught in an avalanche course, which I highly recommend everyone take! Sorry for such a vague answer but there are so many parameters that affect the decision process and ultimate outcome. If you can take a course please do so and if you already have then find a mentor or hire a guide so that you can gain the valuable experience needed to safely travel in avalanche terrain.

Could you explain how many taps until a sheer is concerning. For instance I took 21 taps for this test to fail. Is that a cause for concern? If it took 5 taps that would obviously be concerning. 10? How concerning is that. 15? 20? Thanks for the vids. Very informative

Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your question. As I mentioned in the answer to your other question there is no hard and fast rule as to how many taps are related to safety as we all have different thresholds for what we consider to be safe. Obviously, if you get a fail on tap 1 you would not consider things to be safe. but, as you mention where do you draw the line then? Is a fail on tap 10 ok or perhaps tap 15? This all depends upon how the column fails, is clean, does it crumble or does it 'cash register' off the block with enough force to fall to the ground? Also, the results are relative to the terrain you are performing the test on and where you plan to ski. Remember that the test you perform only provides results for that exact location, it has no bearing on the snowpack down the slope, to the left or right. This means that the results are not only subjective to your risk and tolerance levels but also only tell you what is happening in that exact location. Sorry for such a vague answer but there are so many parameters that affect the decision process and ultimate outcome. If you can take a course please do so and if you already have then find a mentor or hire a guide so that you can gain the valuable experience needed to safely travel in avalanche terrain.

How many times can you re-use skins if you're careful to only ski on snow? Does the adhesive on the ski side wear off?
@Backcountryskiingcanada
@Backcountryskiingcanada 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for a great question. For those new to ski touring it may seem that the adhesive would quickly wear off the skin after each use. When in reality good quality climbing skins can last for years and years of use. The glue does not degrade that much unless it becomes contaminated with dirt, hair and other fibres. I have had skis for over 5 years and used them more than 30 times per season. It is also important to store the skins properly in the off-season so that the glue maintains it tackiness.

Thanks for the great review! Have you had any issues with wetting through? I'm getting a new shell and looking into a futurelight ot goretex shell. Wich one would you choose as your do it all shell? Overall most people agree is super breathable. But keep seeing wetting through issues after only a couple of months. Thanks for the input!
@Backcountryskiingcanada
@Backcountryskiingcanada 5 ай бұрын
Any shell will "wet-out" after some use, this is just the DWR or Durable Water Repellant wearing off the jacket's exterior. It can be renewed easily when the jacket is washed and should be done often to prevent that "wet-out" look. This would not cause the jacket to "wet-through" however which is a failure of the fabric to prevent water from penetrating the fabric and getting to the inside of the jacket. If this happens that is a more serious issue and a possible warranty scenario. I find that Futurelight and Neoshell are the best fabrics for breathability and waterproofness, but I do believe that Gore-Tex has the best warranty with their "Guaranteed to keep you dry" promise. I hope that this helps!

Hey Does anyone know how wide are the leg openings for the ski boots? I have Technica Zero G Tour Scout boots (size 26.5 EU) and my old 3L Guardian Shell Pants from 2015 fit just fine. I am unable to fit the boots in any of Ortovox shell pants released in the past few years. The boots circumference is about 51 cm (20",) the pants leg openings are 53 cm (21") and it's not a tight fit. I can easily slide the pants up to operate on the buckles. I cannot fit the boots in the latest 3L Guardian Shell Pants size M. I've tried even size XL, it doesn't fit. The 3L Ravine Shell Pants are not available in any stores nearby, so I can't go and try them myself. If anyone has a pair, would you please measure the leg opening and post it? Thanks.
