You are judging if the movie is a finished product based on the amount of time that was cut out of it? The extended editions pretty much add nothing to the story (plot wise). They are extra scenes, as labelled in the literal 2000's package. They add more sentimentalism and depth to certain scenes and characters but that's all there is to it. The whole product is always going to be the extended versions, but most of them are so long, a lot of people wouldn't have the time nor patience to watch. Using lotr as an example for your argument was the worst choice you could have made, pal. Not only are the movies already almost 3 hours long (each), but the theatrical version is already a finished product in an on itself. Not only that, but most people that watched the extend called it a "mostly for the fans" due to how little they add to the plot. You just seemed pissed at this movie trilogy in particular, simply because you thought what you bought was everything there was to it. Not everybody wants to buy a box with three 4 hours movies thinking they are buying one of 2 and a half each. Did you even think that for a second before pressing "record"?
