WOW!!! I kept thinking, now THAT is an AWESOME DAD!!! Thumbs up all the way around! I love the 3 tool boxes. What an incredible project from start to finish. Erik only had to look at the instructions a couple of times. And it must’ve totally been exciting when you brought the gas can to gas them up! And great idea to have helmets. Please tell each boy I am IMPRESSED!! And I’ll bet Lacy was celebrating a few quiet minutes in the house!!😂😂

That technical bulletin came with the new starter I just had installed. They have inspected the ring gear and said that it definitely has wear worse than the bulletin shows in a few spots that could cause the issue so I scheduled to have the flex plate replaced. I knew it was going to have wear on it since it’s been grinding for a couple years and would probably need replacing anyway. I still don’t believe that is the cause of this but by paying a shop to replace everything it will be under warranty when it starts grinding again in a couple months then they will have to look into the real cause I guess.

Hmm! I just commented to a friend a few weeks ago that my truck doesn’t seem to have near the pep that it used to wondering if I have a turbo leak or something. Very interesting. I will absolutely keep you posted on what I find out.

My turbo sends a code that keeps my engine light on most of the winter. Think its some to do with the high idle. But its the code from the variable geometry. Someday i may have to clean it out. It doesnt seem to happen during the spring/summer/fall as much. Cold related...who knows maybe its something with the pcm as well....

Its a kawasaki bayou 300 i think. There was no decals or anything on it. I traded some work for it. Its rough and burns oil pretty good, but with a new cdi its been pretty reliable. Needs a new starter though. Pull start works good.

Hey I'm looking at doing something similar to what you did. Did you have to move the motor at all to make the cab fit?
@thorntonboysgarage
@thorntonboysgarage 4 ай бұрын
I used the whole frame and everything from a 2004 2500 Chevy and just put the cab where the fenders lined up with the wheels. Had to use a smaller radiator more like what would have been in the international to fit between the fenders. And had to cut out some of the firewall because i wanted it to sit close to the frame. If you lifted it up a bit off the frame may be less cutting on the firewall

@@thorntonboysgarage ok cool I'm looking at getting a 1955 international r185 and putting it on a Chevy 3500 frame with a Duramax in it and I wasn't sure if I had to move the motor back or if the cab would fit on without moving anything. Do you have any pictures from building it ?
@thorntonboysgarage
@thorntonboysgarage 4 ай бұрын
Ill see what i can find for pictures and try to put together a slideshow or something. I definitely didnt take a pile of pictures when building it. But yeah i just cut out the bottom part of the firewall and made a trans tunnel. A 185 is taller though. It may all clear.

No, not completely. Still does it about once or twice a month so far 😑. I think the reason the other starter didnt do it was it was tired and spun slower. New starter hits quick and spins fast. Maybe more bevel but hasn't done it often enough for me to pull it out again yet.

Mine does the exact same thing. I bought my truck new in 2005 and it just started doing it about a year and a half ago so it can’t be a casting issue. From what I’ve read it looks like a voltage issue. Mine is doing it weekly now and the starter is only a few months old. I put a cheap relay in it & it wouldn’t start at all it would only grind. Put new factory relays in it even changed the sound of the starter but it still grinds intermittently. Has to be a voltage issue gradually damaging the starter.Has to be something wearing out causing it since it don’t start until they are several years old. I’m going to try replacing the ignition switch next. Can’t believe nobody has figured this issue out, it’s very widespread.
@DavidStrong-nz1yv
@DavidStrong-nz1yv 4 ай бұрын
I also read on a forum that several people let the computer completely load when they turn the key on waiting until everything is done beeping & flashing waiting several seconds then turning the key slowly to engage the starter and they said that it completely stopped grinding. I did that and it didn’t bring for over three months but it started doing it again recently and it’s getting way worse now. Points to a voltage issue to me but I just don’t know enough about electrical to troubleshoot it.
@DavidStrong-nz1yv
@DavidStrong-nz1yv 4 ай бұрын
You said that you had a glow plug that needed replaced. Could a bad glow plug draw too much voltage not letting enough go to the starter ? That would explain the turning the key and waiting longer for everything to finish loading making a difference possibly since that also activated the glow plugs. Just a thought. I really need to figure this out before I get stranded again.

I did notice turning slow seemed to help. I also had one starter not last very long. Ill try the waiting longer. I know all the owners of the truck and apparently its done it since it wasnt very old.

Great looking truck! I have to admit, my butt cheeks clenched pretty good as you backed in. I just KNEW your headache rack was going to destroy your garage door! LOL Do you have a build thread, or any pictures of how that cab sat on the HD2500 frame?
@thorntonboysgarage
@thorntonboysgarage Жыл бұрын
Haha. Ive had it in and out a few times. There was about an inch clearance. I had no air in the rear bags either. I have since adjusted the door to open all the way. Should be safer. Would have made for a good video though. I didnt document it much other than instagram @riksratrodihc and that was later on so not really. I had to make a trans tunnel so i could sit it lower on the frame. A little cutting the firewall for exhaust manifolds. And then i used 2 of the factory body mounts and cut 2 from the box and re welded them for front cab mounts. The track width is a bit wide but it works. I cut the front fenders now. But with more pos offset wheels the front fenders would work fine. I used an older radiator to fit in. The one from the 04 was way to wide. Its tight in the engine bay but it works. I still used factory harness so the fuse box is actually under drivers fender. 😑

@@thorntonboysgarage Nice! I have a couple projects I need to get out the door, but my next venture will likely be an older cab on a modern running gear. I like the old Willy's Jeep Pickups, and have seen one put on a short wheel base '02 Chevy 4x4. No I've got the bug... LOL Keep up the great work! ~Bob
