I’m having some trouble figuring out what the smaller contactor by the house battery does on my 2013 discovery. Would you happen to have an idea? Thanks
@GRNewman
@GRNewman 3 ай бұрын
I believe the smaller relay is the combiner relay that connects house batteries to engine start batteries when you push the button on the dash to combine those battery banks, It's a momentary relay to help jump dead engine start batteries. My best guess...
@davidchernioglo7177
@davidchernioglo7177 3 ай бұрын
That relay your mentioning is the bigger one. There’s another smaller relay to the left of it. The control wire has a constant power on it. I had the wires removed when converting to lithium batteries and now trying to figure out what this second relay does. Was hoping that maybe you came across it at some point.
@GRNewman

@@davidchernioglo7177 I just converted my house batteries to lithium as well and both relays in my bay were removed... just guessing here again as I had National Indoor RV do my conversion but they installed another device they said was to protect my alternator. It cycles on for 15 min then off for 15 min when the engine is running...

Question.... How did that system work for you? I'm in a situation where I can't put my black tank directly under the toilet. It is what it is, but I wanted to see if.that setup worked well for you
@GRNewman

It did work well… I was working around walls and floor height issues… just make sure there is a slight downward slant to your pipe… there’s usually enough water with a flush to move solids along.

Welcome to my hood😊 Next time you are through the area, check out Monahans white sand dune park, Balmorhea has the world's largest spring fed pool, Junction has free hookups at the bank of the Llano river for overnight with a great breakfast cafe within walking distance and then into my neighborhood, Lost Maples park, Frio river is a clear running river where you can get underwater photos, Potters Creek is the best camping spot down near austin and San Antone right on the shores Canyon Lake etc. Went to Sul Ross University at Alpine, didn't know about there being a new campground nearby, I will have to check it out. For star gazing, at Fort McKavit there are star parties where Nasa scientists bring many telescopes for public viewing, and McDonald observatory is one of the best anywhere, with solar views during the day and fruendly staff that will turn that big puppy to close up view any planet or formation you desire (saturn was what I wanted to see, changed my inner picture of Saturn forever) thank you for sharing, and have a great weekend 😊

Did you ever find out what was causing the bus to shut down at a relatively cool temperature? Were the sensors set too low? My bus can run well over 200 F if necessary but usually sits at 190. My thermostats kick in at 180 I believe. I have a high, low, and off on the automatic fan. The door to the rad is also louvered which blows a lot of air on the rad at highway speeds.

I had the radiators completely gone through and it still shutdown on me… I’m assuming it was a bad sensor that needed replacing.

The bus had an 8v71 engine… unfortunately the videos you are watching was a trip I made out to California and while coming home through Kentucky on a very narrow elevated road, the right tire fell off the pavement and into a ditch and tree I went… the bus was totaled.

Do you know about Scott Crosby, aka Bus Grease Monkey, in Centerville Tennessee? He is an expert on older buses and GMs in general. I wish they would put more height signs on the bridges. Its my huge fear being around 14 feet high. I saw in your last video that your engine runs at 150. That is really good. I run about 195 and that can go up a bit on big hills.

In 98 we took a 22’ 5er to Alaska for a 4 month trial. Wife said if we want to go full time we need a larger RV, bought a 33’ 5er, sold the house and put only the things we really wanted to save in storage.v (I have 2 railroad boxcars on some property). Then 5 years later the 33 was too small, went to 40’ 5er. Nice then went to a 45’ prevost with a 30’ stacker trailer. Then in 2018 after 18 years of full time living wife became ill. Alzheimer’s started setting in. We sold everything and found a condo near daughter and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each day is a trial. Plan to upgrade the rv you have and save for emergency repairs. We traveled all summer and stayed at a resort for the winter. Keep a log book (journal) of your trip, you won’t regret it. We also kept a list of the rv parks we liked and site maps of goo spots. Buy the book The Next Exit, it shows each exit on the Interstate Highway System. Good luck.

We just bought our 1975 Yellowstone Park Co. bus it's a MC-5B too. It has been setting and it was low on fuel and then it ran out so I have to prime it and was just searching to see if it had a type of primer system already on the fuel lines somewhere..
@GRNewman
@GRNewman Жыл бұрын
I don't have the bus any longer and don't remember a primer system on it... guess you could crack a line going to one of the injectors and let the pump push air until fuel comes out... other than that, when I changed fuel filters I just filled the fuel canister and screwed it on... never had an issue with prime...
