Omg this is beautiful!! This is such a long-term hard work project and it is so impressive that you are putting so much into it. I can't wait to see the progress-- and even if it takes longer for you to put it out! If it keeps you doing it to slow down and give yourself a longer timeline I think that is worth it!

You can always see if there are community art places like a maker space that give access to different medias. Or even taking a community college course(s) in the specific art classes you want. That way you don't have to put money into a degree, and can have access to the specific media you want.

I once illustrated a cookbook of recipes from my mom, for my brother as a gift. It took well over a year and a half. And I worked on a muuuuch smaller scale. So to me end of next year seemed like a pretty accurate time frame.

I was in a similar situation. I submitted my stories to dozens of agents and publishers over the years, with no success. So I decided to launch my own publishing company and my first picture book will be released in early June of 2024 with more stories ready to go. It’s a great feeling doing it on your own, doing it the way you want to do it. More power to you and best of luck.

Beautiful artwork! I too am a watercolour artist. In regard to accessing a large scanner ; check with universities in your area as they often will have one and may let you use it for free. Good luck on your book!

I dont understand the reasoning for painting so large. If they were half the size you could be finished in 6 months instead of a year. Those pages would be gorgeous as wall art, originals or prints. Maybe you could start a kickstarter campaign to help with the launch and investors would get the paintings after the book is published. I think this stunning artwork will make this book a classic.

In my humble opinion you do not need to go to Art School. You have your own style, your own ideas and the ability to make it work. You can study the old masters in your own time if you desire. You really don't need the huge debt either. I think you already believe in yourself and that is what matters.

Amazing to see you make your dreams come true. It's also great to see put so much effort into details, when too many childrens books opt for the opposite, I personally always really appreciated those details as a child. My only minor art critique would be the young girls face is quite defined, making her facial features look a bit more mature, for more youthful features it should just be a little more soft and round. But I wish you the best for your book.
