@kimstikeleather679 You need to make sure your spark plug boot doesnt have the end of a plug unscrewed and stuck inside. If it doesnt tighten it by squeezing it shut a bit. The leak...no way for me to know. Put it in the lake with the seat off and watch where water is coming in. Probably from the jet pump area or maybe the exhaust seal.

@willwitt1020 Most yamaha engines will fit into other yamaha hulls. Remember though the exhaust is tuned to each engine based on displacement. Same size engine should be no issues. Check the measurement from engine to the drive coupling to make sure the fit is right. Better yet ask the Jet ski store in Florida or Erickson's machine and performance about the swap. They may have done it before. I never have.

This is Paul in Iowa. I have a 2000 ZXI and I need help trouble shooting. The start-stop switch stopped working. Ski was running fine. I opened up mechanism and it looks good. There is no clicking sound when I push green button so it is probably not the solenoid. Any suggestions?
@ShadetreeJetski
@ShadetreeJetski 16 күн бұрын
@lamonicommunityofchrist You need to get a multimeter to test that switch. It could be a bad connection at the battery. Look for 12 volts through to the switch. It could be a bad solenoid or the wiring inside the metal box is corroded. If 12 volts is present with the lanyard inserted the the starter or the starter bendix could be bad. Most likely the solenoid or the switch on the handlebars is bad. The metal box holding the electrical parts is subject to corrosion and moisture or the starter ground wire or hot wire are loose.

Hi I just bought a 1998 Kawasaki STX 1100 a few weeks ago the previous owner did an oil pump delete and damage the third cylinder the engine is now rebuilt and I'm about to put it back in the jet ski I will now be premixing the oil I was just wondering if you might know if the bottom case gets its own oil I read online somewhere that it doesn't and just gets lubrication from premixed fuel hope someone can clarify this for me thank you 2:05
@ShadetreeJetski
@ShadetreeJetski 20 күн бұрын
@IlirGashi-wg8kf I pour oil into the bottom end on a build just to have full lubrication on startup of a new build. Yes the engine gets oil from the fuel system as it runs so you dont put oil into the engine later just add it to your fuel. The oil pumps worked fine, it was the oil lines that were the problem. They break and cause cylinder damage. People went to premix to avoid this problem. Tygon oil lines with oetiker clamps solve this problem as well. Never loan your ski to people who might just put gasoline without oil mix if you run premix.

Hey Shadetree, on the front of my motor, there’s a bolt, I think it’s plastic, that sits on top of the cover, you called it the timing cover. First problem is that mine is missing. It actually Looks broke so I can see down inside. Second problem is that it suddenly is spitting water out. Any reason why there would be water in there or where it would be coming from? Thanks
@ShadetreeJetski
@ShadetreeJetski 25 күн бұрын
@brianlachman9454 There is not supposed to be any water in there. It will rust your stator. You need to get the water out and put a plug back in the top. The two hoses connected to the plate are for cooling the stator. Maybe you got a cracked cover? Get the water out and if it fills again you absolutely have water leaking in from water in the hull because th oring seal is bad or your cover plate is cracked. More likely the front oring is not even there because someone didnt install it on a rebuild and water is getting in.

@brianlachman9454 the entire plate has a huge o ring seal to keep that part dry. You have to remove the plate. If it runs fine spray some wd40 in the top and seal it up with a new cap in the hole.

@@ShadetreeJetski I understand the seal but if the hull had no water in it then I'm wondering from where did the water come from that was spraying out of the hole? If there was no water in the hull to get into the open hole, is there another way for water to get in there? Seal inside maybe? Is there a water jacket that runs through one of the walls around that area that may have cracked inside that cover? I'm just spit balling here because there was no water inside the hull itself so the water did not come from the inside. It was dry in there other than the little spray coming from that hole that should have a bolt in it. Is that bolt metal or plastic btw? I have a Yamaha Suv 1200. I have owned it for 8 years. I know that after a long period of inactivity, when I roll it out onto the water, I add a little gasoline to the carburetors through the plugs to help it start. He's so very easy to start. But over time I had another problem. During active driving, after a pause of 10-30-60 minutes, I find it difficult to start it again, the starter turns for about 10 seconds. Then a problem occurs, it doesn’t want to go, and if you press the gas it immediately stalls. I have to drive in circles for another 40-60 seconds at idle and pressing the gas a little, the engine seems to twitch and doesn’t want to go. After these 60 seconds, he begins to accelerate and drive as he should. If you turn it off and start it right away, everything will be ok. But if I come to the shore again and stand for 5-10-30 minutes, then the problem repeats. How can I fix this, what to check and where to look
@ShadetreeJetski
@ShadetreeJetski Ай бұрын
@zhenyaBMW Sounds like you are loosing pressure in the fuel system. Could be a cracked gasket under the fuelcap, could be a bad one way valve, could be a bad fuel selector valve. You pressurize the fuel system with 2psi of air through the return line and spray every place with soapy water and look for bubbles.

Hey shady tree. I have a 1999 stx. I had a bad drive shaft bearing and got water in the hull. When changing the bearing out, I noticed one of the box fittings (for the number 3 cycinder was broke and water was in the ebox. The engine was still running fine, but I also notice the #3 spark plug wire was loose in the coil. Is caltronic a good replacement brand for the coil - that are only $12. Also should I spray down. @ShadetreeJetski
@ShadetreeJetski Ай бұрын
You can buy new fitting to go on the ebox or you can silicone up the broken plastic fittings. Changing that bearing of course requires removal of the drive shaft, which means the engine has to be pulled to do it. I always used junkyard coils because I have one nearby. It is hard to replace the coils because you end up having to cut the wire as they are sealed really well to the part that goes through the ebox. I never used caltronix, so I dont know about them. Yes I sprayed WD 40 in my box after cleaning all the wire ends. Water Displacement formula 40 is what WD 40 is. It was used to spray under distributor caps on older cars to keep moisture out. Moisture buildup in those old cars would keep your car from starting.

It sounds like the cdi box is heating up and stopping working. It can also be the stator...but it is not as likely. I think the zxi uses the much less expensive cdi box. Check for spark or weak spark after it wont start. Good spark is nice blue weak spark is lighter orange red or no spark at all. You should also check compression on all 3 cylinders while you do that.

I really appreciate what you're explaining great video! I'm only halfway through. My 00 XL limited is loud beeping and no start issue. Thinking maybe the sending unit is failing me, and I was surging last summer.

Loud beeping can be low oil, overtemp or limp mode I think.
