Is it okay to put a new cam chest and oil pump on a 103 that has done 30,000 miles? and would it be advisable to change the inner cam bearings at the same time?
@inthenameofmyfather383610 ай бұрын
anybody ever had stuck plungers on screaming eagle cam plate upgrade ? the person that did this job put the plunger spring in the wrong way and it was stuck i put it in the right and it still gets stuck when you push it all the way in like something is out of round on the round part of the shoe and the guide .i also pulled the plate and found the rear one was also stuck but it seemed to be in correct and would pry free but when i push it in it still gets stuck this thing has not been run much since they done the kit she was rattling up a storm ,so im going back with stock new ones but what caused the rear one to stick just like the front one any feed is appreciated Peace!

Why are they flat washers and not lock washers?
@jeremiahtronson71410 ай бұрын
The nuts have a divit in them that makes them a lock nut already. If you look on the flat of the nut you should see a roundish indentation… that’s it

Putting the upgrade kit is great, but I have an 04 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic flhtci with a Salvage Title so I just went with the OEM Replacement Tensioners, I did buy the outer chain since that Tensioner was broken on the outside got new needle bearings gasket kit all o-rings wish me luck they wanted $2880 to do the Harley upgrade kit, Bike had 30,000 miles on it 10,000 when I got it,I have always used 20/50 Synthetic in all 3 places. If I get another 30,000 I will be happy. Depending on what kind of price I get buying all my own stuff. Plus they always want to fix every other thing they can find. I told only do Tensioner Job & change oil we will see what it's gonna cost now. Labor is $110 an hour. It was going to be 7 hours for the upgrade job. Ranman

I just installed feuling 525 cams camplate oil pump lifters and pushrods on my 01 RK. Due to some confusion and wrong parts shipped, I went with the spring loaded tensioners instead of the hydraulic ones I wanted. The problem is the primary tensioner has been replaced twice in less than 2000 miles. The secondary looks fine. The primary one is from Dennis Kirk and the secondary is J&P because J&P was out of stock both times on the primary. What could be causing the fast wear of the primary tensioner? Also my bike is now running hot. There is a lot of noise in my rocker boxes and the bike blew a lot of oil out the air intake and front cylinder exhaust pipe. The bike ran perfect before this work was done.
@franksaxton358311 ай бұрын
Could be a lot of things but the first thing I'd look at is the cam sprocket timing. Could be off a tooth. As to the tensioner wearing out almost immediately..... no thoughts on that except that it must be way too tight. Go with the hydraulics!

@oldsoldier1815 жыл бұрын
@@theroadking547 Well, I had that done, and some other work done, all told it was about $2000. But, I think the cost of the parts was $700, plus 2 hours labor (I think they priced it out at), so it was just short of $1000 for that alone. But, like I said, I had a bunch of work done over the winter. Unfortunately, I dont have a garage, and I live in New England, so, I dont do my own work.

The nut on mine is very tight and rusted. Once I tried to take the nut off of it to replace the clamp it was very hard to remove and finally stopped half way before I got it off and won’t budge now mainly due to the amount of slack now in the bolt and the nut. me trying to remove it allowed that flat piece on the bottom to twist every time I give decent pressure to the ratchet to remove the nut. What should I do to get the flat bottom piece of the bolt to stop twisting with the nut as I try to remove it?
@jeremiahtronson7145 жыл бұрын
Trace Kilpatrick depends on how far backed off the nut is: if your saying it’s backed off 1 thread and stuck then I’d try first a good pair of vice grips on the flat end and use some penetration lube. Or jam a large screwdriver in between the hour glass shaped spacer block and the clamp thereby applying enough pressure against the flat part that it doesn’t turn any longer, while undoing the nut. If that doesn’t work I’d use a die grinder and cut the bolt and nut and or the clamp itself in an area where if you punch through the clamp you don’t damage the muffler or exhaust. If it’s backed of a 1/4 to 1/2 inch great, pull the muffler off and remove the clamp, no need to take the nut completely off, just loose enough to work the muffler back and forth on the head pipe until the muffler mouth has been spread far enough to release its grip on the head pipe and you can easily pull the muffler off. Remember lube is your friend. Does that make sense??

I had a problem with the 26035-99B Part and the Harley Repare Shop installed the 25284-11. In my view this new Part is the same showed in this video, am I correct in this? In my understand the engine will be a better performance to the oil system. And the coil tensors was changed to hydraulic parts, am I sure? No bad for being on a girl bike. After 60 years of riding on a pretty much daily basis I'm sure I have well over a million miles under my belt. The early years on a hydraglide... not exactly a comfortable bike. I like the old sportsters and had a 67 XLH that was a really good bike. Could have used a fifth gear though.

It seems like a no brainer that Harley should have used gears on the back side and the chain on the front. You wouldn't have to rip out the cam chest to change shoes shoes and the front chain would still absorb crank runout. That would be the cheapest and most effective aftermarket solution as well but everyone would rather gamble that gear drive won't destruct from runout or rip out the whole cam chest for that rear shoe.
@franksaxton358311 ай бұрын
You can always trust Harley Davidson, the assemblers of "premium motorcycles" to cut corners and reduce quality where ever possible. If they didn't, S&S, Fueling and the others would have gone out of business eons ago. So don't reward these cheap, greedy bozos. Screaming eagle parts are what should be in the motorcycle right from the factory. Don't pay these dips twice! Buy better parts from trusted, reliable manufacturers.

@DMD817735 жыл бұрын
It is not. I have an 06 road king with them. The only ones exempt i think are the dynas
@boofidontgiveashit62694 жыл бұрын
I believe 2006 dyna series had the hydraulic tensioners and also the ("bicycle") newer style chains, (which have a smoother outer surface, hence less aggressive ware on tensioner). The softail tc range didn't get the change untill '07. The earlier chains can have the outside surface polished, like a jewellers polish. This reduces abrasion and will help extend life of the tensioners.

03 super glide is a beaut. Good to hear. I have a 2002 Low Rider and it’s been a POS for me since I bought it last year. It only has 15,000 miles on it but so many things have gone wrong. Last month was the stator and swing arm bearing. Anyway I’d be very pleasantly surprised if I pull off that cam plate and I have decent looking shoes with little wear. But the fact that you did over 120K on yours gives me a sliver of optimism.

You shouldn't complain is the Dyno a 1380 ci or the 88 ci it only happened on the 88ci engines

HD should have bitten the bullet and fixed this problem...instead they went the low road and came up with a fix...which we have to pay for for failed engineering. ++ for them because now they get to make money on parts too and they don't have to fix anything.
@twcaldwell19516 жыл бұрын
I agree, HD should have had a recall for the shoddy design on the tensioners. But like most motorcycle companies, it is buyer beware. I replaced mine with the screamin eagle kit, it looks to be well engineered and well built and much cheaper than the aftermarket ones.
@beardedbiker3336 жыл бұрын
yelorsirhc hey man. Every engine on a Harley is different. I have a Dyna Super Glide 03 with over a hundred twenty thousand miles and I just changed the cam chain tensioners tonight and they were ready for it. Somewhere out at 50000 and some 80 and some 100 hundred. It's just one of those things. If you own a bike and work on it yourself, and if you don't know how to learn, you just have to check into these things. Again every engine is not the same and will not wear the same.
@beardedbiker3336 жыл бұрын
twcaldwell1951 I got to over a hundred and twenty thousand miles on mine. I just changed them tonight and going to try to get a hundred and twenty thousand more.

jason07770 that's kind of a problem... Assembly line procedures and quality control in manufacturing should ensure every engine is not different. They should all be the same.
@beardedbiker3336 жыл бұрын
yelorsirhc well I guess quality control was on their job on mine. Like I said I got a hundred and twenty thousand miles and some only get 50 or 80 thousand. But mine has been well taken care of with oil changes and maintenance at the right time.
