Ciao Stuart, thanks a lot for your inspiring and educational videos! I would also say that I find very interesting this new series where you show us the approach for successful projects used by impacting people. Just one note: I am pretty sure you've used a wrong copy/paste at minute 3:27, where the same quotation used in the Communication lesson has ben also displayed in the Resilience lesson. Thank you again and greetings form Italy!

Thank you for the video! I’m studying PRINCE2 right now because for the past year I’ve not been able to get a job after being made redundant (I strongly suspect after speaking with recruiters, HR people, immigration solicitors, and past colleagues, that my need for a visa sponsorship plays a heavy role in my case). I’ve been in technical project leadership in the consumer- and pro-electronics industry for the past 4.5 years before I was made redundant. Prior to that, I was the manager of an electronics design team for about 8 years, after I had been a pure engineer for 4 years. So a total of about 18 years in my career. My question for you is: Do you think that it’s because you have a (albeit outdated) PRINCE2 certification on your CV, you’ve been able to land jobs even after it has expired? Or, do you think that you’d still be able to land your current type of roles had you not had the certification but was promoted/transferred into a leadership / project management position? Thank you very much.

Great question - and I'm sorry to read that you're experiencing these difficulties. It's a tough market at the moment. From what I've seen, experience is a greater selling point that qualifications. With experience, you have the proof you can deliver. However, if you're experienced and struggling to land the next role, if you have the time/financial/energy resources to do so, investing in yourself with new qualifications may be the thing that gives you the edge over the competition. Good luck!

@@InfluentialPMO Thank you for your response. Those are my sentiments as well. Anything to help increase my chances. I've been reading about the principles, themes, processes online while getting ready to buy the book. I plan to read through a chapter or two, look at cram guides found online, then take a sample exam, rinse & repeat, until I get through the whole book, then just sample exams and cram guides. Do you feel that this might be helpful? Would you happen to have any suggestions / advice? Thanks very much.

Great video! Musk's approach to business management is truly impressive. As project managers, though, we often don't have the same level of control over every aspect of our projects-clients, stakeholders, and customers tend to shape our path. If I had the freedom Elon has, I would definitely implement his strategies. On a side note, as a fan of his cars I bought one! 😄

IMHO. All three plus a dodgy communications plan. The client's requirements were clear as were the consequences of missing milestones. The Planning issue appears to be the PM did not lock down required resources prior to commencement. The clear risk of delay, in addition to the delays already endured, was linked directly to the availability of bespoke services from a single provider. Having a single provider for such a significant project in itself should have sent alarm bells. The PM also seems to have a frosty relationship with the client, a well-executed communications plan would assist in developing a cooperative relationship with them and quite possibly temper stringent requirements such as minor extensions etc, it's not a guarantee but it helps. I hope the PM survived the ordeal and became a wiser more effective one. I loved the video, nice one, keep them coming.

Strongly agree. A situation where one factor by itself could have been a problem. But all theee combined? With tangible responses being taken, contingencies being communicated, etc? That's just asking for things to go wrong, and that's without having a team of lawyers eager to discuss things after the fact

Thank you so much for this video. I found myself in a very similar situation and, in March of 2024, walked away from my job and Project Management without a backup plan. It was an awful experience and I still struggle every day with the anger and the pain. It's worse because my spouse still works at the organization so I am not able to make a clean break. I have some amazing accomplishments in my life and career but this experience has left me questioning everything I have ever done. What an awful feeling. I am so sorry you had to go through that, especially with a new baby. It warms my heart and gives me hope that you have been able to move past it. I sincerely thank you for the show of raw emotion and wish you and yours the best.

Hi Influential PMO, as someone who’s new to PM and just passed the APM I am enjoying your videos. I was wondering if you had any advice for how a PM could upskill themselves during ‘down time’ between projects. Essentially none of my projects are at delivery points and right now I’m kind of waiting on quotes or mock ups etc (don’t want to go into too much detail about my projects..!) thank you in advance if you have any pointers or a steer in the right direction, I enjoy Pm and want to be a good PM!
@InfluentialPMO
@InfluentialPMO 29 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks for writing. You need to judge what's the right thing to do with that downtime. Yes, you can educate yourself more - either with a qualification, or with other training options. Personally, I'd have a think about anything I know I should be able to do better (a technical skill, soft skill, etc) or something I know is going to be important in the near future - and find free training on that, either in KZfaq, EdX, Coursera or LinkedIn Learning. However, keep in mind that your life will get busy again in the future and you whilst upskilling is good, you need to be conscious of how balanced your life is. Maybe this window is the time you need to reconnect with friends or family, or take a long weekend, revisit a hobby, or just rest whilst you can? Life is short, so make space what fulfils you the most.

In the scenarios you have worked in where you are given an already written scope did that or in such scenarios would you expect that scope document to come with detail around the quality requirements? Also I would love a video on writing a SoW or similar scoping document.
@InfluentialPMO
@InfluentialPMO Ай бұрын
That's a great question. The quality requirements I received were very high level yet quite specific and set clear expectations, eg 100% of resources need to be trained on the new system by [date]. But it didn't go so low level as to define the requirements of the class room, the size of training cohorts, etc. I'd say if there are specific standards that must be met that determine whether a project has succeeded or not, they should be included. Hope that helps, and I'll add the SoW demo to the list - great idea!
@GoodUsernameNeeded
@GoodUsernameNeeded Ай бұрын
@@InfluentialPMO A video on writing a SoW I think would be really good because in the scenario where a PM is given an already written scope its important that they have the ability to differentiate between a good and bad one. And a good way to be able to identify this is knowing how to write a good SoW.

Can I ask what's the difference between a contracted and a normal job. Furthermore I want to get into construction project management so would I just need an APM qualification for it?
@InfluentialPMO
@InfluentialPMO Ай бұрын
A contract job often means you are engaged as a company rather than an individual. You don't get employee rights (sick leave, paid holiday, company benefits) and your notice period is often much less than an employee. But you tend to get paid more per day. Regarding the move to construction PM, look for job postings for that role - and see what qualification is required. APM is popular generally in the UK - but I can't say for the construction industry.
