"Travesty"?.......definition: a false, absurd, or distorted representation of something. Nothing false about a song she describes as "deeply personal and brutally honest" about her struggle with mental illness. Nothing absurd about telling her story for the benefit of others. Nothing distorted about her voice which is just as clear and beautiful as ever. If she wanted to showcase her classical voice she'd continue recording classical cover songs. But, she has something profound to say and is saying it through her music in a genre that, as a child, she listened to with her dad and has an affinity for . "It's the way I write", she says.....indie/alternative pop/rock......at present anyway. This song has been playing on Adult Contemporary radio nation-wide since its release a year ago. Her classical crossover songs never got national radio play. After 8 years of recording for an exploitive industry, she's never been so happy with what she's doing than being an independent artist (since age 18), answering to no one, directing her own career and her life, writing, composing and producing her own music. "Writing and releasing my own music is something I've wanted to do for as long as I can remember......In the future the majority of music you hear from me will be mine, because that's where the true passion is for me." New label and distributers seem to be doing a much better job of promotion. Classical music is DOA in the States as far as mass marketing is concerned.

The songs are very different, except that they both use the common standard drum pattern used in thousands of Rock songs and jazz......This song uses Kick drum on the first and 3rd beat and accent rim shot on the snare on the 2nd and 4th beat with continuous tapping on the high hat. Her co-producer is Greg Camp, founder of and former lead guitarist and songwriter for the rock band, Smash Mouth, who did the arrangement. He knows all the standard drum patterns. @@cl9786 I meant to say if she’s able or interested in singing classical now. She’s not an established opera singer like I thought she would become as an adult. Her voice is too soft with limited resonance and soft vibrato by surveying her other recent videos as a grown up.

Jackie has never had an interest in pursuing opera. In fact, she's never had voice training of any kind, though she sings classical songs. The 3 arias she recorded at age 10 were simply a challenge and meant only to show she could sing them beautifully, though not operatically of course. Rather, she has always sung them in a pop-opera style using pop vocal techniques.....with finesse rather than power, extended straight-tone instead of strong vibrato, etc. The "opera singer" label attached to her has always been an unfortunate misconception.

Actually singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell owns this song written in 1967, released 1969. Over 1500 different artists have recorded/performed it. Jackie was inspired by Joni Mitchell's music and recorded an entire album as a tribute to Joni titled "Carousel of Time". This song is no. 1 on the tracklist.
