Brilliant video! Thanks for taking the effort and posting. The RWS Rifle Match is my go to ammo for my BRNO mod.2 (82) and my CZ457 MTR. It just shoots consistently good. I have had good results with a cpl of lots of R50 to, but it's like the Rifle Match outperform all others in general. Stay safe!

How does the RimX compare to the 1913 for benchrest ?
@22rimfireultra67
@22rimfireultra67 12 күн бұрын
Both excellent. It would be a tough decision. With the RimX set up with heavy long barrel, Bench trigger, bench stock and using a bench type front rest, I tend to get a few more 'X's' with the RimX. But the 1913 for me is more enjoyable to shoot. 😌

@@projectmayhem2330 RimX is not an ordinary magazine fed action as you know. Each round chambered is near perfectly fed. And the Desert Precision Gunworks build (as described) takes the rig to a high level of precision. Then, there is the fact that I am a 'weekend' shooter.........about as far as one can get from the 'pro's'. So others results might be much different. 🤔

Any thoughts on pillars or bedding it at this point? I know it's a debated issue with the lilja barrel about break in. Some show noticeable improvement right away (which I kinda would expect) and some have talked about the difference after "break in". Whether people believe in it or not I know most of the testing centers won't even accept a rifle barrel that has under 500 rds reason being it eliminates variable of change later. A couple big barrel makers say there is no need to break a barrel in but...but you may see improvements after XXX number of rounds and that number differs. On my custom builds I burned 1000 rds of CCi SV & SK Magazine before I started using Lapua. It's been debated on the forums some have done similar some haven't but the group who did seems to report less flyers overall. Not sure how this can be quantified or explained.
@22rimfireultra67
@22rimfireultra67 Ай бұрын
Yes, I have thought about bedding but need to get some extended time at the range to understand its potential first. I side with the camp who feel barrel 'fouling' can make a difference in accuracy. The theory is lead and lubrication running through the entire barrel (hence 750 -1000 rounds) eliminates at least some microscopic 'drag' on the soft lead 22LR bullet as it races to the muzzle end. I like to think of it as Teflon coating on a frying pan.

I enjoy watching your channel. I have the same Jard trigger, Ely headspace setup on a pair of custom CZ 457 Lilja 21" & 24" Shilen barrels. Are you going to test the same Tuners from your previous videos to see how they perform with the 26" barrel? The tuner on my 24" rig is outstanding. For me cleaning the chamber every 100 rd to eliminate carbon ring & running several dry patches down the tube is a must with custom match chambers. The firing pin mod is really good. Keeping the bolt clean & replacing the extractor & spring clip when the FTE starts is necessary. The down side of the CZ finding spare parts.

Yes I most likely will test the tuner on this rifle in due time. I still need to determine its potential as is without a tuner. So far, I like how it feels in hand and the replaced and added components seem to 'fit' in well.

Super NIce Rifle! I must have missed the Lapua one 🧐😳 Gotta go back and find it. Nope I did see it haha 😂 Why is your scope out like that? I don't think I have ever seen that before 🥸🤓 I am very curious about this.
@22rimfireultra67
@22rimfireultra67 Ай бұрын
Some 'pro' bench rest shooters use this scope set up. With very low ounce trigger pull, and super steady positioning with front and rear BR gear, they require minimal physical contact with the rifle. Only contact is finger on the trigger and maybe (yes/no) ultra-light stabilizing or counter squeeze thumb on the stock . No cheek or shoulder contact. Therefore, there is no need to 'hover' over the rifle during firing which could influence accuracy. This 3/4" offset offers less chance of unwanted contact.

@22rimfireultra67
@22rimfireultra67 Ай бұрын
No I have not bedded the action. It is a consideration for the future. Action screws are torqued at 20 inch pounds. I have not tested this yet, but with wood stock and some sort of 'man made' pillars I did not want to over torque. Most of my wood stock rifles that were tested were most accurate at 20 inch pounds, hence picking that setting.

The Standard CZ Varmint is a very beautiful rifle indeed! The change over was specifically geared toward bench rest shooting. Thus, the MTR design. I too found the MTR 'unsightly' when first seen, but have grown to find it very appealing, prompting me to find the used stock and follow thru with the build. And yes, the Standard Varmint was 22LR accurate unadulterated, but I think the 'bench' style MTR with the addition of a much lighter trigger and precision match barrel will ultimately shine brighter. And, for better or worse, the Standard Varmint is no more. Cheers!
