I agree with the green on green being a bit boring. I may have to give it a dark wash. Check the description for a link to the head.

I'm about to paint my first custom figure which is actually going to be Firefly V2. I wasn't sure what you meant about giving it a wash but referring to painting. (Not soap and water) Is it a specific paint that your calling a wash or am I just misunderstanding? Either way, nice job!
@mrtoon20008 ай бұрын
It's a technique called "washing." In the case of Firefly I used liquid shoe polish. The wash is applied (brushed on) to the entire figure (if that's the look you want) and then wiped off, leaving color only in the creases and furrows. You can make your own wash with a 4:1 mix. 4 drops of thinner or water to 1 drop of paint. Let me know how it turns out, would like to see it.

This is the dopest custome ive saw on youtube! Inspired me to try it out, did you cut the cape or heat it off? And whats the best budget friendly way to paint? Airbrush, or hand painting? Im new to this but collect figures and wanna give it a shot without making it look like my daughter slopped it on 😅
@mrtoon2000 Жыл бұрын
I used a heat gun to remove the extra cape piece. All paints were applied with an airbrush. Airbrush can be costly but I bought a less expensive set from a Harbor Freight Tools (not sure if they have one in your area). Makes painting much faster.

How you get the joints painted? They often be the same color gor me cause the paint scrap off
@mrtoon2000 Жыл бұрын
You can take the joints apart with either hot water of a heat gun. After this you will want to sand them down just a bit. Too much and you will have loose joints, but even a little sanding you will risk getting loose joints. I don’t usually do this because once I’m done with a custom figure, I will pose it and leave it. Should I re-pose it and the paint rubs off, I will give it a touch up and that’s that. If it’s a figure that I’m selling on Etsy then I will just box it back up and leave it.

Amazing man! I know Reeves loves the 66' series, so I hope at some point he uses these colors (in a more muted way most likely). It would make sense for a new hopeful Batman to not want to be black and grey. Maybe...blue and grey.

I did basically the same things as you did, however I used chrome instead of silver for the metal pieces. I like to pick up these mcfarlane figures when they're ~$10, they serve as really good practice for painting/washes/etc. I think the sped up videos are just fine, but maybe give a total time at the end, so people can get an idea of the time commitment they're looking at?
@mrtoon2000 Жыл бұрын
Each figure is different as I don't do them all in one session. For this one I'd give it a total time of 3.5 hours from disassemble, wash, paint to finished product.

@JosueAguilar_01 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, he didn’t sand it before hand. After, he didn’t put any Paint protector in the end.
@mrtoon2000 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it will rub off if you plan to play with the figure or change the pose from time to time. You can use a flat sander and sand the joint down a bit but you risk giving it a loose joint. I discussed it with the client before I took the commission and he was aware that it could happen. Only thing I did to help prevent it was give the joints two coats of varnish (not seen in video) while bent and straight. But even that won't assure that the paint won't rub off.
