Hey hey, Loving these tutorials, Ive been looking for a tutorial whereas I convert an image to SVG and I end up with thousands of layers, and example is say I have a png of a farm image with several animals in the scene, but I want to take out the chicken & maybe cow & use them in a project. WHat are the quick ways of grabbing the chicken without grabbing say an overlapping barn door in background & grass tufts, is there a way to cut out the vector or snap to it in that mode. So basically a tutorial on how to work with vectorized images & to work around prepping it to use elements from within or to be able to grabs elements / features & move them to the right angle or copy that element & remove for another project. All remaining vectors. Didnt know if a tutorial of how to get to work on a converted image into Vector & a better understanding of all these parent sets like some are converted to colour parents & others shapes ontop of shapes, some layered, some just remove shape & nothing underneath just transparent . Hope this kinda makes sense.

Hi there and thanks for watching. So ofcourse as we can't automatically vectorise in Affinity, we have to do it in another piece of software. There are many out there, some give you the option to limit the number of colours used. When I vectorise a pen drawing I choose only 2 colours, that way I'm left with fewer layers (black and white). When I don't do that I end up with a million layers like you know, it's difficult to grab the object you want. one way to get around this is also to just trace around ( eg the chicken) with the pen tool and place all the layers within that layer.

This is very clear apart from you not explaining the PC options. For example you say to use CTRL+ CMD, but I thought CTRL was the PC equivalent of CMD (command)? Also what is the OPTION key?

Thanks for the feedback, the option key is on a Mac keyboard. As I don't have a windows pc I can only rely on what the affinity help section says for that. Use the help tab in Affinity on your windows it's very useful

Can the pressure points be rotated? So, for example, when increasing size, it would thicken at a 45-degree angle? Can they also let you increase the size on one half of the line differently from the other?
@ArtistWright
@ArtistWright 6 күн бұрын
Good question, as far as I'm aware thwr pressure points can't be rotated, but if you added a node to the stroke on those pressure points then you can rotate them.
@grimmdanny
@grimmdanny 4 күн бұрын
@@ArtistWright Thanks! I have another Q. At 3:40 when you added a new pressure point, I noticed that the edges of the line got sharp at that point. It creates the effect that the line at that point is flat instead of rounded. It's more noticeable when you expand the size of that pressure point to where it becomes a diamond shape. When I mess with it on my end, I cannot find a way to smooth that out to match the rest of the line. Is there some option that causes this to need to be changed? I haven't been able to find any. Also seen very clearly at 9:30. Thanks.
@ArtistWright
@ArtistWright 4 күн бұрын
@grimmdanny ah yes in this scenario I would head over to the pressure profile tab and play with it from there. Maybe adding some more points etc

when you create a vector rectangle you will give it a fill and a stroke. If you decide to expand the stroke, that stroke will now be separated from the fill. Meaning two layers now. Are you applying a stroke to a raster image or something?

@@ArtistWright just a normal jpeg image with stroke and then expand stroke, does the image needs to be vectorized first?
@ArtistWright

don't apply a stroke to the actual jpeg. Just make a separate stroke the same size as the jpeg (turn on snapping and it will snap to the bounds of the jpeg).
