9:42 so now I see you should have 5 stoves, so a meaningful comparison can be made where 3 competative stoves can ALL be loaded and lit bottom to top. Rather obviously top down fires are fast starts and then slow burns. LET'S HAVE A MEANINGFUL COMPARISON!!! THANK YOU!!! (SEE IF THIS COMMENT IS ALLOWED TO SURVIVE!!!)

You need to compare these two stoves with the BEST backpacking wood burning stove. The TRAIL DESIGNS TRI-TI and smaller SIDEWINDER titanium sheet stoves with their INFERNO inverted cone inserts are excellent GASSIFiER stoves. Plus these stoves san be fed larger pieces of wood while burning than the other two WITH a pot on top. You want a "collapsed view"? Look at these two stoves all rolled up in their Tyvek sleeve and stowed in their pot!

I have the Toaks and found that, as the wood burns down, the flame gets too far away from the bottom of the pot to effectively heat my pot. To solve that problem, simply found the top to an imported cookie tin which could function as a stove bottom, riveted it to the bottom of the top piece, cut a loading window opposite the original one, added more ventilation holes, and have a very light, functional wood burner. It doesn't gasify, but it doesn't matter that much when I just want to boil a quick pot of water. All wood burning stoves leave soot, so that's not an issue with me.

The Bushbuddy Mini has a diameter slightly smaller than some of the wider/larger cans of vegetables/beans etc, as such, you can just use the lid from those cans (the lid that requires a can opener to remove, not the peel-back kind of lid) and place it under the Bushbuddy Mini and that will prevent any scorching of the ground below... Either that or use some folded up aluminium foil underneath the stove as an ash tray...

Might want to do a test - without the mini burning the board underneath it - that is added fuel... The other two will still need to have the ground cleared or allow them to burn what is below as well. While not as extensive if you have anything like pine needles they would go up quickly..

Its as if he had a problem wiyh the Toaks because he substantially overfed from the start. Very unfair comparison test. Im certain that the Bush Buddy would have performed in exactly the same way if it was suffocated too. All this test has really proven is that fire still needs oxygen, as always. I thank him for his time and effort in recording this video though, as well as give a return thumbs up to Mr. Maverick. In all seriousness, his enthusiasm was truly inspiring.

Nice idea, but you have the ridgerunner set up waaaay too loose. It should have a 20 degree line hang angle and that way it lies much flatter. I've had one since 2015 and absolutely love them, but as with my regular hammocks ... once you put a down underquilt on, there is no going back. It is much more comfy with an underquilt.
@lifthearth
@lifthearth Жыл бұрын
I’ve found the comfort increases considerably with the right pad and quilt as a combo. You are correct about the angle as I’m constrained by this basement set up. Thanks for the comment and great advice!
@1DrBar
@1DrBar Жыл бұрын
@@lifthearth I have to admit that even though I don't like carrying the spreader bars, that I like the ridgerunner more than my traditional hammocks. I do use a pad in mine sometimes as it does change the lay just a bit, but am trying to cut down bulk. I cycle mostly, so the weight is of little importance but packability and bulk are my problem. I now have three different versions of the spreader bars from Warbonnet, and value that in the latest model that the foot poles slide into the head poles, but still wish they were shorter in more sections.
@lifthearth
@lifthearth Жыл бұрын
@@1DrBar , I’d go with the slight weight penalty of bars any day and can never go back go a gathered end hammock. I picked up the carbon fiber spreader bars so only 6 ounce or so penalty. Love the bridge hammock!
@1DrBar
@1DrBar Жыл бұрын
@@lifthearth I agree with how comfortable the bridge hammock is ... but my problem is not weight, but rather the large size of the bars when packed down. They do not fit well into any of my panniers. Do the carbon fibre bars come with the option of having more sections?

I agree! Shortly after I made this video, I reached out to Vargo hoping they’d make a titanium steam baking sort of cup. Something super lightweight but walled. They never responded. I’ve worked on a few different versions myself also just tried a silicone baking cup; but I really wanted a titanium version. There’s so much you could do with a very thin, light titanium baking cup. Still wish Vargo would consider doing that.

You are not alone with having trouble with the Toaks stove. I have one also and had a hard time getting it going and keeping it going. I also have another stove that works superior to toaks and it is less than half the price. My personal opinion is the toaks does not have adequate air flow to the fire box area. I will probably drill holes near the bottom of the burner box on the sides. I think the addition of the air holes will help the fire start and burn more efficient. To me this is a design flaw.

( A PALAVRA DE DEUS ) ( Efésios. ( Atos. 16:31 ) "Crê no Senhor Jesus e serás salvo, tu e tua casa."
