This is good info but what we really need to know is how this new AP sounds compared to the original CD. Pressings of rock music from the mid 90s almost always are just a copy of the CD -- hence the reason why it sounds the best (probably the original mastering jobs from the 90s often needed no improvement), and also why it's the quietest (music mastered for CD is limited and then has to actually be pressed quieter to avoid skipping). I'm curious if the new AP sounds any more "3D" than the original, as this new one is AAA
@trueaudiofiles8453
@trueaudiofiles8453 5 күн бұрын
@@voccsaycee30 I would guess the original pressing sounds very similar to the CD. The early pressing would not be limited anymore than the MOV and likely not anymore than the AP. They really didn’t add extreme limiting until the late 90s and into the 2000s. I actually will have an update tomorrow as I found another pressing I have that I forgot about that I will be speaking to. The new AP definitely doesn’t sound more 3D than the original. Just a slightly wider soundstage.

The new A75 is much flatter and jumbled in the middle. It is also 3-4 db louder than the OG (purple translucent). The OG pressing for me is far better than this new one. RKS buried the drums and the voice with all the other instruments. I like the A75 clarity. But to me it took most of the teeth out of it. This albums show piece was the drums and voice. To me the translucent purple is much better. Don’t waste your money on the new A75. Get the OG. The OG has far superior separation and more 3D. I feel like Ludwig mastered it but cut by another guy. RKS did not do this justice for the A75. I compared the CD to the purple translucent og. It is not the same mastering. But pretty good for a cd. The purple translucent has DR13ish and so does the A75 and MOV. RKS blew his opportunity. Tons more air in the purple OG. Long live the OG!!!! I am so glad you came to the same conclusion as me. I was getting flamed over on another video for expressing this.

I have a pressing of Purple that was done in Italy and it is horrible! A non-stop crackle/pop fest! I'm looking forward to getting the AP 45 RPM. I am trying to limit my upgrades these days unless it's a no-brainer like my Italian piece of garbage. For the most part with comparisons, I usually don't hear much of a difference so that makes me hold back a lot here in 2024! Cheers

Hi Jim. Thank you for another helpful post. I was on the fence on this one, but the sibilance is a deal breaker for me. I have been getting the recently released Joni Mitchell box sets and am very happy with them, even compared to earlier pressings I’ve collected over the years. I'm a fan of Devo, growing up in the 70s and 80s, and loving that era. I own their first 6 albums since the 80s and their first 5 are a piece of my musical experience that I enjoy. "Shout" wasn't so great, and I stopped being interested after that one. I thought that one was like they were trying a bit too hard to be more "mainstream pop", and had lost their quirkiness (which is what they're all about). My favorites are their 1st ("Are We Not Men?...") and their 5th ("Oh No, It's Devo!"). but the 3 in between are equal to each other IMO. They all hold up well, but I'm attached to about half of the songs on each of those, compared to the full albums of my mentioned faves. I do feel, however, that "Freedom Of Choice" was an important record for Devo, and I also feel that "Whip It!" is their best song. So damn catchy! And it was much more fresh sounding than most bands on the radio at that time. And their freaky/original outfits they always came up with and wore for each "phase"/album. Which this one remains a classic that everyone who knows their name attaches to their image, with the "red flower pot hats". Simply classic. So, I had to get this pressing for my collection. Especially since I only have it on original cassette tape and later on CD. So I am happy to have this in vinyl record form, finally. Very, very nice indeed. Be stiff, and satiate your uncontrollable urge by whipping it! ... good.

I just bought a single of Prince's Cream for $2 (plain old 7" 45, big hole) And I believe it came out of a jukebox. It has CRAZY scratches all over it in helical patterns. It looks, visually, like it was played and run to death in a machine for years - like it was a favorite. However, miraculously, it plays beautifully. Extremely clear sound, I would never guess it looks like it does. I bought it without inspecting it, and even for $2 I would not have bought it if I had looked closely and saw the scratches - but I learned you can't always judge a record by it's apparent scratches. Now I am considering buying the Elephant UHQR for $200+! At this point I have no clue if it will sound any better than the CD through my sony bookshelf system that I use as an amp.

Interesting...sounds like MoFi is trying to press their records unnecessarily loud. Also interesting because there's another YT reviewer who said the MoFi beats the Bellman in every respect. IMO, I only own original/early pressings and the Bellman remasters of all their Roth-era albums. There's some more detail in the Bellman cuts, separate from the fact that they tend to be a little brighter, but also the Bellman remasters have a little less "meanness." However -- it varies from song to song. Hard to say which pressing is better because of this. If it were only one song to a/b, it would be an easier answer

For what it's worth, the label that I've found tends to do the best job when it comes to reissues has been Sony (who do Columbia and Legacy et cetera). A good example has been the recently released Alice In Chains reissues like Dirt and Jar Of Flies. Now, I can't speak about the Jar Of Flies reissues which come with all the extra frills (like replica flies in the wax and all that nonsense), but the reissue that's pressed on black vinyl sounds excellent. The same was true of Dirt; and the remastering jobs applied to both reissues are really good too. After that, some of the reissues that have been pressed by Warner (like the huge reissues of Flaming Lips albums and Replacements reissues) sound really good too. Some of the other reissues which get pressed onto 45s sound alright but are just frustrating. The reissue of Rancid's And Out Come The Wolves which was pressed on a collection of 7'' singles sounded good, but having to switch singles so often just to make it all the way through the album was a pain in the ass.
