Its great you getting rat's they are very nice and sweet animals and really smart to. But don't use stuff on the bottom of there cage that produce dust because dust damage there lungs and they could die. I have Rat's myself and i use cotton pieces on the bottom its not produce dust and its warm for them don't ever use saw dust or any other material that produce dust .

I love this sssosoooooo much and it's actually exactly how I want my cage but I would like to just say for 4 rats that cage is too small each rat needs at least 2.5 cubic feet💚💚💚

Be sure to wash your hands in between handling different species or else you will get bit😮😮 I've got mice and gerbils and hamsters and birds and you always have to wash your hands even if you've handled one bedding from 1kg must wash your hands before interacting with a different species

I've had rats for years. The ones I have now are male rex dumbo selfs. One is beige. The other one is dark gray. I have 2 hamsters, but they've never bitten me. I have a tri-color degu. Oh yeah, and a hedgehog. 🐀🦔🐾

It’s absolutely ok to arrange the cage a bunch, I do that all the time! Especially when you learn their abilities and need to adjust the cage for their needs. Something I would recommend is paper shaving instead of wood, mainly bc they are less dusty and dust can cause problems to a rats respiratory system. But otherwise this is an amazing cage and I’m very impressed by how much you got almost immediately!
@elisesalfarlie4 ай бұрын
as long as the shavings are dust extracted they are find for rats aspen is quite good and other things like hemp, i have heard they are also quite absorbent but paper isnt quite absorbent
@doomed-y3sАй бұрын
@@elisesalfarlie Every thing that produce dust is bad for rat's use stuff thats not produce dust like cotton or special mat's do not use saw dust of any of that stuff it could kill your rats and it not a pretty dead

I think I watched this video when I got my rats a year ago, and now I'm getting two more in a couple weeks, and it popped up in my feed again. Even better the second time 😁
@equestriansonly7615 Жыл бұрын
you should try a little litter box for them and add a little rock in it ass they like to pee on them. that would be very good and save having to clean bedding out as much. and when you do clean them out rub everything down with viniger mixed with water it helps the smell, and lowers the chances of rbf (rat bite fever)
@laradavenport903 Жыл бұрын
You can't have duct tape because rats can choke the tape piece. And rats can't ever have hay, they can't digest in the stomach. What are you doing? Are you not using the internet to research?😒

This is their first time having rats I'm pretty sure so you shouldn't be mad at them. People will educate them and hopefully they'll update things they've done wrong

Idk I feel like I am commenting way to much, but I was taking some inspiration from your cage design, and I wanted to ask, where did you get those baskets?
@rylenvanderhoek2834 Жыл бұрын
for inside the baskets I think you should hide treats to make it a forage toy. its good stimulation.

I know you’ve had them for awhile now but I personally buy the oxbow adult rat food but I buy the 25 pound bag it’s cheaper for how much you get also be careful with the hay

Aspen isn't good for rats as they are prone to respiratory issues.

Hi the dog box is great, the only thing I’ll say is it needs to be deeper as they aren’t really able to dig in it :)

The cage is really small :( even with giving them free roaming time it doesn’t make up for a large enclosure, neither does having a bunch of enrichment both are good but can’t make up for that large space they need I recommend watching some of Victoria Raechel’s videos she does a really great job on explaining why hamster need big enclosures and what kind of enriching things you can add

You have the same cage as us! Great choice :-) But the filler is not suitable, rats cannot be shavings - they can prick their paws. Rats have a very interesting white strand on their head - I see it for the first time :-)
