while i don't hav an e55, i hav an s55 amg w220 - so, same engin n trans m113k v8 + 722 tranny (if not then very similar i guess??)... so i kind of inherited da car from a friend that unfortunately passed away recently (rip to darren) and when i went to pick the car up i'd the exact same problm too, so basically just free revving in D, R, etc.. restarting da car did absolutely nothing same shit just free revving.. strangely though if i engaged the steptronic gears by moving the shifter to the left (up down - +) car would roll slowly.. anyways long story short i towed her home and quickly found out there was maybe a litre or 2 (if that) of tranny fluid in the gearbox.. so ya, no leaks but severely underfilled! topped her up with the correct amount (also bought a dipstick), n she drove just fine ever since lol! been going real good as my daily driver for the past 7 or 8 months! nice e55 by the way, these engines are really good, awesome torque n smooth!
