Hello Michael how are you? I hope so! I want to thank you for the 3 videos...they are amazing...I listen to them a lot and play with them too...both guitar and harmonica! In the description you say that the guitar is homemade right? Mine is too and I would like to ask for your help in adjusting the height of the pickups... I have difficulty with this... and if you can help me by giving me tips on how you do it, I would be very grateful... Thank you very much in advance and I await your return .....great hug from Brazil!....Sorry if the translation is not good, here we speak Portuguese and I did the translation in google translator.

Hello @j.francisco9332. Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoy the videos and play along. Yes, the guitar is homemade. I made the body but bought the neck. I don't have very good insight into the pick up height. Although I do think the pickups make a great difference. I bought my pickups here: www.vintagevibeguitars.com/. Keep on jammin'!

Nice lead. Not thinking b.b. Seems to be missing his major tones thrown in there. Seem to start there, but lose it in favor of the pentatonic. Sounds great, though.

Thanks, Mark. Appreciate the feedback. I love B.B.'s style, but wasn't really trying to sound like him. Here's my original recording, where I was playing on a Gibson ES-339: soundcloud.com/michaeljeronimo/3-oclock-blues and a live amp (rather than direct). Still my own style, but a slightly different sound than the tele. Cheers.

@michaeljeronimo 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. That's what I had in mind when we first recorded the tune with the band - a gradual build-up over the course of the tune. No peaks and valleys, just a slow build. That's the idea I shared with the band and they nailed it on the first full take.

Fantastic. I am a giant BB king Fan and a guitar player ( sort of), I've been playing for about going on 6 years and I still sound like I'm just playing fancy scales, you have the soul that I am looking for in my blues playing. Any advice you may have no matter how small would most likely give me a better understanding of what I am attempting to play. I've been using the Thrill is gone and other slow to fast BB tunes. Awesome playing man, I got the chills.
@michaeljeronimo
@michaeljeronimo 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I love B.B. as well. One of my favorites. Thanks for the comments. I try to focus on phrasing. One thing I wold recommend is to listen to singers and sax players. For example, listen to the first couple verses of Eva Cassidy's version of Stormy Monday (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jsd9damqxJOwf2g.html). Her phrasing and vocal inflections are just amazing. I was also thinking of doing a video on this particular topic as well. I also love Albert King's phrasing. He gets an awful lot of mileage out of bending notes in so many different ways.

is in A# minor?
@michaeljeronimo
@michaeljeronimo 2 жыл бұрын
KInd of. It's a Bb blues. You may be thinking A# minor pentatonic, which would be the same thing as Bb minor pentatonic. I don't really think of it as just a minor pentatonic though. It ends up being limiting. It's really three separate dominant chords, each of which have their own sound/scale with them (mixolydian). I've been meaning to do a video on this because I don't see it taught properly.

Thanks! Yes, Bb. I don't think in terms of pentatonic scales though. It's an easy way to think about it when first getting started playing blues guitar, but ends up limiting in the end, IMO.

I was just blown away by Michael Jeronimo's playing. As good as the singer is, hearing this as an instrumental would have been a real musical gift. Michael Bloomfield came to mind as I was listening. I feel some of his very best was showcased on the Super Session recording with Al Kooper. Bloomfield created magic without vocals by Kooper or anyone else. Michael Jeronimo created the same type of magic here. **Edited** I've come back a couple of times to listen to this. I've quickly come to readjust my feeling of the vocal. It's done in a way that I think B.B. King would approve, no screaming, growling or histrionics. The important thing, though is Michael Jeronimo's incredible playing. There are many styles of what we consider blues, but on a Friday night, after everyone in the house has slipped off to bed, this tune played this way is the epitome of what I think of when I want to hear the blues.
