Just got broken up with last week so I'm revisiting this phenomenal musical for some consolidation. Craziest part is that one of the reasons he broke up with me is cause apparently...I wouldnt make a good first wife if he ever became president. 💀 Guess Im more a Marilyn than a Jackie.

What I especially love about the musical and makes it superior to the movie, is the actual relationship development between Elle and Emmet. The movie basically forced a few coincidental meetings and business interactions into a romantic relationship, whereas in the musical shows a gradual buildup, from strangers that get acquainted due to coincidental meetings, to friends that help each other, which then develops into a romance. 1:26:49 Only realising now that Serena’s statement of “You’ve got the pom poms; it’s time to shake them!” Is the musical’s equivalent to when Elle told Paulette “You have all the equipment; you just need to read the manual.” in the movie. 1:51:52 EVERY WOMEN in this frame swooned hard for Emmet.

I really hate a lot of the story changes they made but at least the songs are good :/

Which ones?

@@OfficialAtticus The fact that in the musical she essentially has a man behind her at all times telling her what to do and guiding her through everything, while in the movie she had Paulette and the girls from Delta Nu encouraging and supporting her. Having a man constantly telling her what to do kind of defeats the story's moral; which is that she doesn't need a man to be fulfilled and successful. And I feel like Warner isn't a big enough assh*le..? If that makes sense? He's supposed to be a kind of misogynistic and materialistic antagonist of sorts. And I really don't like the use of "Poohbear" in the musical. He says it like he still has feelings for Elle when he's supposed to just see her as a piece of ass, and in the movie he says it as a condescending and belittling term-- not a term of endearment like it seems to be in the musical. And I HATE the changes to the bunny costume/party scene because in the movie she is empowered with spite over what Warner says about her (that she's an idiot and will never get into Callaghan's internship program) and *she* makes the decision to focus all her energy into studying and proving Warner wrong. While in the musical, she sits outside in the cold and cries and Emmett has to come to comfort her and tell her what to do next. I feel the plot/focus from the movie to the musical was entirely shifted from 'Feminism/addressing misogyny/coming of age/self-discovery' to 'Romance and some self-discovery as a sub-plot'. These are my main gripes that I can think of off the top of my head but there are a few more minor changes that just didn't need to be added at all and could've been replaced with literally anything else. Like the Ireland thing with Paulette?? Super confused by that.

@@bennytastic86 I think they went with the choice to make Warner not as big as a misogynist because of Elle still vying for his love up until the internship and his proposal to Vivian. The use of calling Elle poohbear is to show that he still interesting and has more common with her than Vivian. He’s still a jerk believe me, he uses the Marylin comparison to call her stupid. He also makes Vivian the villian basically and leads Elle on, instead of telling her that he doesn’t like her anymore (which isn’t even true) Elle’s rejection of Warner isn’t a big ‘Boo Warner!’ It’s showing she’s moved on from Warner, and isn’t dependent on him and his love. She realized that achieving things is better and more fulfilling than being a wife to a loser. They changed her reaction from being spited by Warners comment about how she stupid to hurt and sad. She’s still in love with Warner, she’s hurt that he thinks of her like that. I mean, if your friend or lover called you stupid and basically said that you’re too dumb to ever get this, would you be able to keep yourself composed? Emmett coming across her crying also sets him up to be a mentor and love interest. While I do agree and disagree with the stuff you are saying. But, the bigger train wreck is the book legally blonde

My favourite part of the musical tbh is that when Elle is feeling down at the end, it isn't Emmett who convinces her to stay but the other women around her showing up for her and supporting her. I love their romance, but the fact the female freidnship is portrayed as more important to Elle is really cool ^-^
