Did you know many scholars consider that envy is the key of the Ten Commandments, underlying the other nine? Of course, some malcontents will share your cynicism. One cultural observer has labeled commentators like you the modern "masters of suspicion." You are showing envy, poor taste, and terrible judgment. He did not grow up rich, just with a potential talent. He did not choose his relatives. He found what he wanted to do with his life, he has smartly promoted himself, he works very hard, and he shows quite a bit of gratitude. He is showing a remarkable range of acting skills and he has a ton of fans. Get over it. Watch what he makes of his talents.

No connections can take u just do far if u can’t do the job u don’t get it. U R wrong about Chalamet. He wanted to be a Broadway actor. He made it big ish on Homeland he got more work from that He got Homeland bc the casting directors go to Performing Art schools to find the young actors they select who they want that’s how he really got started. U R just projecting envy onto him. He graduated top of his class everyone knew he was going to make it in Laquadia HS He was also selected by John Patrick Shanley himself who wrote the book Prodigal Son TC won the Lucille Lortell Award for best new Actor. The stage play was produced by Ridley Scott (famous Hollywood director/ writer). That’s how he got noticed. In the audience( this is NYC) Is Greta Gerwig & Noah Burnbach. 2 of Hollywood’s big writer directors. Timothee’s agent who he hired himself got him the meeting with Luca Guadinino TC had lunch they talked & he got the lead in CMBYN. BC he was perfect for it & has dual citizenship & speaks French that’s how he got his start he was the youngest the youngest to be nominated for an Oscar in 86 yrs he is talented. All directors want to work with him He actually rejected the agent his mother wanted him to use. He wanted to do it on his own.

The powers-that-be in the movie world thought Timothee Chalamet would be the latest heartthrob for teen girls and boys, bored housewives and closeted or latent gays who love twinks. In other words, box office magic. Unfortunately for them, he has proven to be a tasteless, exhibitionist, KarJenner and a typical egotistical, rude Hollywood twit. Oh, well. On to the next promising project.

I dunno, could be he's had a helping hand, but I think he's a really good actor, not just competent, so at least it's not a case where it's undeserved. Also maybe growing up with family members in the arts makes going into that area more realistic and something that is achievable, rather than say growing up in a working class background where no one around you is doing things like that so it's harder to even envision that for yourself. He was amazing in dune part II, that part is kinda like, or could have been like Luke Skywalker or harry potter, kind of broad diliberately vague, easy to put yourself into the shoes of, but he brought an intensity to it that I was impressed by.

The Dune movies are mega dull, and Chalamet sleepwalks through the movies with this lost angsty look on his face as if he were in a teen angst coming of age movie. Yet reviewers love these films, possibly the most artificially hyped films ever, and people fall for it because there is very little else out there these days.

Half Nelson is great too. Drive defiantly had him in the role of loner characters who say very little, but he’s still great in that. He was also very good in La La Land. I would add: Blade Runner. Local Hero. Spirited Away. The Deer Hunter. Heat. Fargo. The Usual Suspects. The Butterfly and the Diving Bell. Matador. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Hannah and Her Sisters. Labour Day (or Labor Day). Leaving Las Vegas. Gallipoli. Lone Star. Out of Africa. The Sting. Pather Panchali. Gabbeh. The Sheltering Sky (great film about travel). Kiss of the Spider Woman (weird as hell but fascinating). The only really good "recent" movies I can recall are: The Revenant (the part where the protagonist makes his way back to the fort from being left for dead is superb and visceral) and Moonlight. The quality of films/movies has gone downhill dramatically over the last few decades...

I fear this will go for the "feminist woke" (yeah i know the term woke is overused, cry me a river) Hollywood type of script/direction. But I certainly forgot Phoenix previous musician role in Walk the Line. That's something to consider. About Gaga? I like some of her music. Loathed her perfomance and the whole film A Star is Born. But goddamn my exgf LOVED that film and the song Shallows. I hated that fucking song with my whole life. Even though I like some songs from her first albums. I don't know. It doesn't convince me but I'll give it a try. I'd love for a sequel to never happen. That would be the ideal scenario. This analysis doesn't even touch that which tells me it was made by a zoomer girl so adapted or adoctrinated into this sequel/remake craze Hollywood that she doesn't even question it. Sad stuff.

The original movie was deep, dark and emotionally charged. It’s not that I dislike the idea of a musical sequel but I think they should have given the female role to a lesser known actress. Lady gaga is too commercially popular and that might spoil the intensity of the movie.

Winona Ryder was a huge part of the original success, both on-screen and off. She was an actress with a low-key fetish level of fame, a girl for boys who liked emo-girls which back then this wasn't the over-worked brand that it is today. Also, Burton was having a moment along with other filmmakers like David Lynch, Terry Gilliam, the Coens, not to mention the established names like Spielberg and Lucas. There's a connection between E.T.'s character in Elliot and Lydia Deetz. The 1980's Loner character with a big heart was everywhere on screen. Today that characterization is who exactly... the cast of Stranger Things?? There's still a place for this movie if the tone focuses on the Macabe elements of the original, a Victorian era ghost story with a layer of the Marx Brothers on top. But that's a long shot, a real high-wire act to pull off and still connect with a dwindling long form attention span. Remember back then animated television series were still just used for selling toys at a place called a toy store. You can't rely on 80's nostalgia because it doesn't have the full surround life mommetum that it did back then. Maybe if Burton directly references 80's nostalgia, nod and wink breaking 4th wall... but that's a one trick pony.

I'm definitely curious to see how this film will do at the box office. I'm usually pretty good about predicting these things, but with _Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,_ I'm not so sure. If anything, I feel it'll be a moderate success, even though it's projected to be one of the biggest box office hits of the year. Considering the year thus far, that's not saying much. There have been a lot of bombs and duds. Also, I couldn't find any info online about the film's production budget, but I imagine it's MUCH more than the original's $15 million budget.

Alien should've been a standalone film, an absolute classic. Same with Star Wars, Jaws, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, The Exorcist, The Omen, The Shining,, the list is endless. Alien Romulus Why. Just why. There is no need for the question mark or indeed anything beyond the original trilogy. It should have ended poetically. They ended it poetically. But that took away the future of fantasy pulse rifles in toys-r-us for the man-babies to suckle on. Desperate little fanboys and fangirls wanted their own little fan service colonial marine family unit soap opera in space with the 'highly imaginative' end game of an invaded earth *yawwwn*. And they didn't even get that. What they got was a mess littered with attempts to destroy any mystique the franchise once had in the guise of answering questions no sane person had actually asked. Let it go kids. Fan service productions and cosplay is all the fanbase has left. Don't embarrass yourselves.
