I received a copy of this book as my Christmas present in 1978, as a 14yo starting out in Magic. Now, after a lifetime working professionally in England, I can say (in complete honesty) that this is the greatest book of Close-up Magic that has ever been written - and believe me, I've read many, many books to draw that comparison. It focuses upon Magic with everyday items - but these are 'real world workers', not childish stunts. The Card Magic section covers the only sleights that you will ever need, whilst the effects themselves are incredibly strong. The Coin Magic section covers all that you need to know, with literally every Coin Magic 'plot' explained in superb detail. Don't overlook the sections on 'Numbers' - watch (on youtube) Harry fry an audience with his Magic Square and rapid Number calculations. As well as this, every classic element of Close-up Magic and Mentalism is covered within it's pages, with borrowed, ungimmicked items. Throughout the book, NOTHING is knuckle-busting, nor indeed unachieveable. There are no pipe-dreams - this is a collection of strong, audience-tested material. Harry's writing style is now legendary within our Art - nothing is vague, no detail overlooked. Learn the contents of 'The Magic Book' and you will have enough material to work professionally as a Close-up Magician - it truly is that good. Unresevedly recommended!

Wish you would have shown how to assemble the box... the instructions that came with it are soooo confusing.

Thank you for this great unboxing and explanation. I bought this for my nephew and we’re trying to navigate the wide world of magic for the first time.

Is there a set you recommend for an 11 yr old?

After considering your question for a day, I suggest 2 options. Option 1 (which I recommend more): The set shown in the video is fine. If you want better versions of some of the props, I’ve added links to find them in the description of the video. Option 2: “Magic for Everyone”, shown in this video below, along with the supplementary material I suggest in the description. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lZhpYJOrzLDTYJ8.htmlfeature=shared When I uploaded the Marvin’s Magic set video a year ago, I had an idea of resources that would work for anyone over 10, but those things have, over the span of a year, become unavailable or were not as good as I thought. I’m starting to think this Costco set should universally be considered “square one” because there are so many classic concepts/tricks explained that will come up again later if one learns more magic tricks even if not everything meets my standards. It’s also a low storage commitment because it’s so small, which is a plus.

good video, I bought them to sell. I have been performing for over 30 years and I think this is a great set for the price. And as far as the props, they are kind of THEY ARE WHAT YOU MAKE THEM. Sponge balls and a svengali deck can be a nice little act, and of course a good cups and balls routine has kept people working for decades. Thanks for the review
