top tip: prewarm the boiler water in the microwave ;-)

im gavubg some issues with my quarry's speed. Even if i open up the regulator only slightly it tends to run away (go too fast and derail) how do u manage to get it to run so nicely? also very nice video. its so relaxing wathcing a steam loco puffing round. i guess thats why i like running my locos

Great video, Mamod has come leaps and bounds from its early SL1 days, though I still love the simple charms of the original.

Hello, thanks for the nice video. What amazes me, there is no sight glass for the water level? When should I top up the water? I have a Mamud Brunel with a water indicator. Greetings Harald from Germany
@SteamingEarl3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for commenting. The boiler is designed to run out of gas before water, so long as you fill it up full before you run it, but I do agree, it definitely needs a water sight glass! Many thanks from Keiran in England :)

Wow that’s one long train pulled by one mighty locomotive. I would say the best thing about this loco is the speed control the regulator gives. That might vary from loco to loco but that’s how my quarry runs
@SteamingEarl3 жыл бұрын
Mine is a bit temperamental but once you stick a good load behind it you can control it easy enough :)
@mcbenman17933 жыл бұрын
@@SteamingEarl that’s a fantastic technique, oddly enough I have never put trucks behind my quarry locomotive.because despite having it for 6 months
@manny999560703 жыл бұрын
It does not have a water glass?
@SteamingEarl3 жыл бұрын
That's correct it doesn't, it will run out of gas before water
@guysmith31463 жыл бұрын
Rather than removing the smoke box door, have you tried lighting the gas through the funnel/chimney?
@SteamingEarl3 жыл бұрын
I have done, but this loco doesn't seem to light to well as there is a slight blockage stopping the flow of gas, think it may be a bit of solder, but I have had this fixed but a steam buff (hopefully)

Or just recently purchased the Mamod sterling with the remote control can anybody tell me how to use it properly because the instructions don’t say anything I just tell you to fit it

Mamod instructions aren't the best I'm afraid, best places is the mamod forum online, hope this helps! 👍

Very nice. What is the smallest diameter you think it wouyld run on? Over time with break in is it likely to able to run even slower?
@SteamingEarl4 жыл бұрын
Yeah over time it will, that was its first run on rails, also you could weigh it down or put a heavy wagon or 2 behind it. Track wise, it can take O gauge first radius but I'd recommend nothing less than about 6ft radius, and make sure its SM32 track, hope this helps

*FANBOYING* :omg omg omg omg I want one cant wait till I get one. Really nice video Is it hard to controll in terms of it running away down the track?
@SteamingEarl4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the slightest tap on the regulator and this thing flies, and then you have to run around after it to slow it down, maybe worth RC'ing it so you can control in remotely! 😁

Great video. Thanks. I’m interested in one of these. You mention the RC. Any idea how that hooks up? Do you have any experience of using it?

OK so I watched the vids in the wrong order. I like the way you describe each step of the process. I have a Mk3 Mamod and the process is similar but not quite the same. Watching you go through the oiling points is very useful. A cracking loco and excellent video. Looking forward to the next one.

Thank you, I wanted to try and be as informative as possible, little bit hard to film at the same time but glad you enjoyed, the loco really does run well though, once again many thanks 👍
