Good question. Basically every frequency touch’s each other so even though your maxed out at 14k 20k is still going to have an effect. This is why to fix low end doesn’t necessarily mean working on the low end , if you work on low mids it will effect low end

I'm not as sure as you, but even so, if you get the demo of both and try it on different elements, you do work them differently. I really hoped the cheaper PA would be as good or better when I tried both, but each setting on the UAD sort of moves the processing in a more pleasing direction. I guess it sounds more analogue. The Lindell API compressors are great, though. I've got the SBC 2500 and it's really great and punchy like the real thing. I, however, think that UAD has really come really far with their analogue colouration and saturation and mojo that just makes things come alive. Their Hammond organ VST smokes everything when you turn up the distortion on the leslie. In fact, I am here because I am buying that organ and this channel strip and is a bit hesitant because they're expensive.

Mixing by ear is the way to do it, alongside a spectrum analyzer plugin like Span (it’s free). While annoying to some extent, what sounds good is the most important than what is on a dial.
