Far and away the most advanced M42 camera ever made. The CE-2 variant has 1/2000th and a multiple exposure option that this lost, but this has a better memory button, split prism focus, multi second shutters, and is lighter weight, so it wins overall there. I do like multi exposures though :(

Just pulled your video up as I have dusted off my cameras, it seems the camera I have the Sears branded KS-2 which is definitely the same camera as the XR7 and the manual descriptions you are mentioning are in fact on the KS-2 with the aperture through the viewfinder as well as the depth of field preview button! Solid video! Time to dust this KS-2 off and go shoot some film! It’s been a few years

I love the FA so much that I have three of them. I love the styling, love the controls, love the way it works, love its always-gets-it-right matrix metering. I also have thje FG, and Pentax MX, ME Super, and MG. The FA stands head and shoulders above the rest of them in terms of usability, and the way it feels like modern camera. Alternatives that do not require batteries and lack electronics are lauded. Back when these cameras were new I used to listen to old guys talking about electronics meaning the new fangled cameras won't last ten years, while us young guys were enjoying the many benefits our electronics gave us. Now, 40 years later, my FA cameras still work perfectly and are more reliable than any of the Pentax's, including the MX, much vaunted for not requiring a battery for anything other than the meter. Not needing a battery is in practice, almost irrelevant. In 40 years I have never had a battery issue that prevented getting the shot. Meanwhile the FA is almost magical in the way it manages to expose perfectly in tricky light situations. Nailing the exposure every time is so much more important than not needing a battery. No camera is perfect, but I still regard the FA as one of the best Nikon ever made, and I consider it, in my opinion, the best 135 SLR of its era. Full PASM, matrix metering, shutter speed, flash sync speed, size/weight, and joy-of-using factor combine to make it a stand-out camera choice for me. It was a camera, however, that suffered from Nikon's abysmal marketing strategy plus its ridiculously high price. The marketing was schizophrenic. They simultaneously marketed as "The Techno-camera" which of course appealed to young men. But, at the same time they made a huge push toward women and made TV ads suggesting that it was not technically advanced, and was so stupid-simple that women could use it. I think they were envious of the number of sales to women Olympus was getting, so wanted to attract female dollars to Nikon cameras. They forgot that being double the price of an Olympus SLR was never going to attract women, while a "not technical" ad campaign was contradicting the "Techno-camera" campaign. I don't know which is worse - not being able to decide on a clear non-contradictory message to sell the camera, or a misogynistic ad campaign that insulted women by suggesting they were too stupid to use anything other than a very simple camera, but were also stupid enough to pay a very high price compared to an Olympus. Olympus was always going to win that battle. That sums up the FA, a fabulous SLR that was stupidly priced, and badly marketed.

I bought a similar camera, which arrived yesterday. However, mine has a shutter speed range from 1/30 second to 1/650 second and bulb. My new acquisition is one of the export models of a Chinon 35EE, i.e. my camera is a universa Compact SEL 35. However, there are several other export models of the Chinon 35EE and I certainly haven't found them all yet. But here are the ones I have found: - Revue 700 EL - Revue 700 SEL - Porst 135L - indo 35EE - ROTOR 35 ee - gaf MEMO 35 EE - gaf Point Five - BEROFLEX quick spot 135 EE - MIRAGE 35 EE - universa Compact SEL 35 - RONY 35EE - WEIST 135 DL - PRINZ 35 EE There are also very similar models from Cosina and Konica, but these are not export models from Chinon and there are also some export models from Cosina and Konica. The difficult thing is that even the cameras from the three manufacturers Chinon, Cosina and Konica are very similar and you have to be very careful when categorising them, if that is possible at all. It's a rabbit hole that goes very deep and you have to be careful not to take a wrong turn, and maybe I'm even wrong with one or two of the classifications. What still puzzled me during the whole search and where I could not really make an exact classification, because apart from a few pictures, a sale advert on eBay and otherwise more than bulky information, would be the EXA Compact 35 EE. With the 35 EE at the back, it could be an export model of a Chinon 35EE, but the small lever of the shutter release is different. Somehow I can't quite get my head round it. 😳😁

The FG can take two motor drives, the MD-14 which was designed for it and the MD-e, designed for the Nikon EM, which is smaller and lighter, but slower. He data back is the MF-15, which apart from being slightly shorter to fit the smaller body is identical to the one made for the FA.

The Miranda G was the camera to get because it had interchangeable viewfinder with a light metre in it. It also had mirror lock up and was the more of a professional camera than the F version. The thread inside the lens mount was for Leica threaded lenses. This camera is in surprisingly good condition. A nice trip down memory lane for me as I bought one of these new in mid-1990. It was very well advertised at the time as being the fastest camera in the world, both for autofocus and shutter speed. I needed a faster, more automated camera (having missed shots on a safari-type trip), it was also very ergonomic and sufficiently compact and light. Although not quite as robust as I would have liked, I never had any issues with it, and it became my main 35mm SLR workhorse for the following 5+ years. I owned a few of the cards, mostly bought for me as presents, and on reflection thought they were a bit too expensive and gimmicky for what they offered. All in all, a great camera in its day. Thank you very much for this review and all the other reviews you have contributed to the photographic aficionado.

@@arhphotographic No, unfortunately not, my ex-wife took a great liking to it, and when we separated, we both agreed she should have it whilst I retained my medium format camera. I no longer needed the speed and automation in a camera, for expedition trips, and the Leica R6 became my next 'workhorse' camera, until it was stolen at Lima airport in 2009 triggering my acquiescent shift to digital. I still own a few film cameras for pleasure and look forward to slowly making my way through your 365 Camera Project!

@@arhphotographic At the time, a Bronica ETRS [outfit], which I had earlier updated from the ETRC. With the grip and basic prism, I used it as a big and clunky SLR, but it never failed me once in over 20 years, in many harsh environments around the world. I replaced it with a mint-looking ETRSi, but that does have battery drain problem I have to manage. Of course, the original had to sometimes be accompanied or replaced by a 35mm SLR, or even compact at times, for lightweight, speed and convenience.

The meter was not intended for LR44 batteries, it is possible to recalibrate it for them with two variable resistors under the top. But it is originally intended for use with 1.35V Px675 batteries. If you do not want to compensate with the ASA/DIN° dial or have your camera modified for LR44, it does also take 675-size hearing aid batteries.

I have the same camera, the Sigma Mark 1, the very first camera Sigma ever brought to market and for which Sigma approached Ricoh and bought the original blueprints of the Ricoh Singlex TLS, on which the Sigma is based with minimal cosmetic changes. Incidentally, I can recommend the same basic design, albeit with slight, but also more visible changes. The recommendation would be the universa Interflex TL, where the release button and the connection for the cable release have been separated and the cocking and transport lever has been given a very striking design. Incidentally, such cameras have their origins in three original cameras from three camera manufacturers. As already mentioned, these were the Ricoh Singlex TLS, then the Chinon Prinzflex TTL and thirdly the Cosina Hi-Lite. Including the three cameras just mentioned, I have so far found 24, possibly 25 models from different camera manufacturers or photo trading companies, which were marketed worldwide under various names, either by granting licences or by re-labelling their own cameras in order to be able to sell them under a different name on the American and European markets. These include the Sigma Mark1 and the recommended universa Interflex TL. So if you want to take a closer look at the rabbit hole, I'll give you the list here: Ricoh Singlex TLS Sears T-L-S Sigma Mark 1 Cavalier Five Thousand RTL Cosina Hi - Lite Proloisirs Hi - Lite Reporter Hi-Lite universa Interflex TL Carena 1000 Porst uniflex TTL Porst reflex TTL Revueflex 1000s TTL Revueflex T Revue Superflex TTL Ifbaflex TTL Ifbaflex T 1000 Chinonflex TTL Chinon Prinzflex TTL Prinzflex Super TTL Chinon Riaflex TTL Kingflex TTL Focal 1000 TLX Argus STL 1000 (not the Argus/Cosina STL 1000, that are different cameras) Phokina Interflex TLS Have fun browsing 😁 Oh yes, number 25 would be the Ricoh TLS 401, which is the successor model to the Ricoh Singlex TLS, but fell out of my list simply because of the change in the viewfinder system. 😉 Greetings Lutz
