We made far more cars over here than this selection of typical British Leyland cars and Ford were outselling them by the late seventies. Also Peugeot Talbot and Vauxhall had factories over here in the eighties and were joined by Nissan in 1986. The Ford Cortina was the best selling British car of the seventies and was stylish, looked excellent in E ot Ghia trim, was fairly reliable and was very easy to maintain.

The ping on chop suey bar, i used to like the chicken curry until i had a piece of chicken that still had a clump of fur on it, i am yet to see a furry chicken.

I first came to work in England in 1983 (although I had also lived there as a child in the late 60s, early 70s) and a lot of south London was still like this. I noticed a huge change though between 1983 and 1987 (Local barbers and corner shops were no longer owned/run by English people, things like that) and a further huge change between 1988 and 1995 .. and after that? well, let's just say 1000 years of history was demolished in a single decade.

If it wasn't for planners,trendy architects and their love of concrete we'd now have one of the best beautifull,classic cities in Europe.

Many of the photos from the early 1960s, not the 50s, as some have already said. But not all. It's an era I remember well.

R I P Birmingham like all other city's ,I was born in Liverpool 18 in 1945 in the 60 I had a and went to the cabin the birth of the Beatles served my time at fords and in a great union supporting are brothers. And sister in strikes but far better times life was easier trams great music I bought a house with my wife in 1971 now decades later the rot has set I love my city but it's getting over run not through vermin but in other ways it's a shame thanks to decades of badly run government starting with Blair opening the flood gates I feel sorry for the very you kids growing up they will have no life Christianity almost gone I wouldn't be surprised if the take over a great 2 cathedrals over the catholic and the protestant wat a city it was but there are still great Liverpool people here who will always make any one who comes here feel welcome ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

The very last image of the video is Dowlais Top Merthyr . If you look closely you will see the sign “ Fish Bar” That was my brother in laws shop, I spent a lot of time there in the 70’s. It was indeed gloomy but I also have fond memories of better days back then. Thank for the video , much appreciated.

I know it wasn’t all rosey then but it was definitely a better place than today even the back to back houses with neighbours all chipping in toilets and the washing done in the yards gas lighting ha, well things move on .

0:58 My first ever boss in civil engineering was a Sikh highways construction senior engineer...I did check this pic & it's not him, but he was brilliant, a gifted engineer with so much respect within the company...He would go out on site, & everyone would always want to stop & talk with him, all the plant men, foremen & gangers...A brilliant man who overcame so much with such dignity & reserve. 👌

I lived in gateshead in the early 2000s two of my 4 kids were born there, very grim place i remember the trafalgar pub and its clientele lol Parklane was a good laugh though on a friday and saturday night.

Councils should learn from the philanthropists such as Robert Owen, Titus Salt, George Cadbury and Lord Leverhulme. They all built model villages that are still standing today and either UNESCO world heritage sights, or desirable places to live.

i wish we could have that england back again. we had high social cohesion, freedom of speech and low crime - police didnt even wear stab-proof vests. there was no diversity but we got by!
