What can you do if you don't have a buffing wheel? Can you just sand it and use the wax? Thank you for sharing!

The term Damascus used in modern terms does not mean what it implies from the historical. Though your metal work is lovely... Damascus it is lilkely not.
@TyrellKnifeworksКүн бұрын
I get that some people have watched a video and have learned that traditional damascus is not the same process we do today. "Damascus" has become the defacto term people relate to for both. Just know that the American Bladesmith Society, Master smiths, and Journeyman smiths (like this one), don't care to delineate the terms and will say "damascus" for both types. If we want to refer specifically to traditional damascus, we'd say "Wootz". There's no need to "correct" me in KZfaq comments. Don't be that guy.

Pre-order out of stock at your website. I do not quite understand. Is it limited amount to pre-order?
@TyrellKnifeworks2 күн бұрын
The pre-order was just a batch of 25. I will probably open another drop for pre-order next week, but I wanted to get all the parts ordered for drop 1 first. All the machines for the pre-orders will not ship until late June so I don’t want to go too crazy on them. Stay tuned next week.

Why oil not water?
@TyrellKnifeworks3 күн бұрын
Modern smiths don’t really use water, it’s too unpredictable. The failure rate for traditional katanas with water is around 25-35%. That’s a lot of work to fail potentially 1 out of 3 or 4 times. Oil is much more consistent. Thanks for watching.

If the lathe can handle it... you really only need to pre drill a little larger then the web of your largest drill. Just today i had to drill a 1 inch hole in 304ss. A .25 inch drill was enough, then straight to the 1 inch. A drill around that size should be going slow. 120rpm. That being said im using pretty heavy duty machines at work.
@TyrellKnifeworks3 күн бұрын
My 1 inch bit was a crappy one that I had to hand sharpen, so stepping up was kinda necessary. Thanks for watching.

Yes, it’s the same foam used in tool chests. I use windex personally and I’ve been using mine for almost 6 months with no issues.

Having a surface grinder is completely different. I have a surface grinding attachment as well as a big standup surface grinder but those don’t help when you need to have sand. 😉

This looks very handy for when I can get a shop set up! I have a permanent wrist injury that makes the repetitive motions of things like hand sanding excruciating after only a short time, and I already own several devices to make life in the kitchen much easier. This kind of thing makes many kinds of crafting so much more accessible to me. That said, the way that thing moves back and forth tells me that one day a very lonely person will show up at the ER with an injury they will do anything they can to avoid telling the real story about how it happened.
