Gosh this really stirred some memories of four 18 year old lads who booked two weeks sailing through Blake’s back in 1968. The sailing boat was Valkyrie 1 from Earnest Collins in Wroxham. I think , for which I will probably be derided as another viewer remarked that the fun and ability to relax seems to be lacking nowadays bigger and faster cruisers racing nowhere as fast as possible. Man has transferred the rat race mentality into what was a relaxing haven.

Lovely. I would have been 6 when th is was filmed. My love for the Broads didn't start until I was about 11 when we had a trip out from Pontins Pakefield, which included a Broads Tours cruise from Ranworth, to Wroxham. Been back countless times. It's sad watching these videos that often we don't know who the people are😢 Lovely days, easier life.

It's a shame we don't know who the people are in this film. They went to a lot of trouble filming their holiday.

I remember seeing a lot of the Hearts fleet as a child in the late fifties. Always immaculately turned out and so distinctive. Mostly bathtubs on the Broads nowadays.

There's a MK3 Cortina in the background at 2:02, so it'd have to be after 1969. There's also a Broom 30 with a GRP superstructure at exactly 2:00. They only started to be built in 1968. I grew up in Wroxham and the chalet bungalows at 12:20 don't look familiar, but could possibly be in Stalham.

I think I missed boating in 1977 cos I indulged in a new 750 Yamaha and did the Isle of Man instead. Went next year though.

Brought back memories. The petrol station at Herbert Woods and the pub at Potter Heigham that burnt down. Opposite the pub is a small car park which holds about 6 cars where they use to erect a cake walk at certain times of the year. To the side of the tower in Herbert Woods was a fishing pond which was later dug out and made into a marina. Someone had the idea of putting caravans on rafts powered by outboard motors but it didn't last long. We couldn't afford to hire a boat but would sometimes hire a bungalow by the river at Potter Heigham where every so often two men would arrive in a boat with a big hopper in the middle. They would collect the toilets from the bungalows and empty it into the hopper. One guy would turn the wheel on the side of the hopper mincing its contents up and emptying it directly in the river. The broads were blamed for an outbrake of Polio. I have fond memories from my childhood holidays on the broads.

I enjoyed that. I wish it was cheap and easy to have such videos made as new for the digital age. Lovely to see some of the old cars and streets. Interesting to see how the footage compares to some of my own channel's Norfolk Broads videos that I've uploaded in recent years. I have gigabytes of phone videos gathering dust on my hard drive, and I think you've prompted me to pull my finger out and get them uploaded. The aircraft in the video, I'm fairly confident, is a Piper Pawnee crop sprayer. They were frequent spring/summer visitors to our fields in east Suffolk. I know in 1974 a Piper Pawnee crop sprayer collided with an RAF Phantom over Fordham Fen, Norfolk and I think that may have played a part in their eventual virtual disappearance from our skies. I think the last time I witnessed aerial crop spraying was 1979'ish. I have subscribed.

I wasn’t born until 67 but I love looking back at Cinetapes and old pictures of what it used to be like back in the 60’s up to 80’s. Myself and my dad holidayed a couple of times on the Broads, hiring from Hoseasons but collecting our Boats ( one year Gemini 1 and the next Gemini 2 ) both boats 2-4 berth and perfect size for just the two of us,lovely old Wooden Boats with lots of varnish and Wooden Boat smells( Gemini 1 ) still had the old Gas mantles for lighting and the fridge 😳,early mornings were a smell of Gas,Damp and varnish with a Niff of Petrol in the background! Great memories and Smells. Myself and my Girlfriend go to Great Yarmouth quite a bit and I Love having a wander around the Old Dance Hall and seeing all the old pictures that are stuck on the hoarding around the Building ( it’s about time they fixed that place up ). Yarmouth is looking a bit grotty lately and the people aren’t as friendly but it’s still a nice place for a walk in the seaside air. The Place needs a Good revamp though and a good lick of fresh paint,it’s such a shame walking around old side streets and seeing Homes that used to be thriving B+B now dirty and disheveled flats for different People who don’t respect the Country that has offered them refuge and benefits. I’m afraid Yarmouth is going to go down the way of Hunstanton with No shops and just full of flats, the original places of Fish and Chips and Bakery etc,the people are moving out, long term residents are moving away from Hunstanton and Yarmouth to outlying quieter Villages where there are No Immigrants or Asylum seekers 🤷‍♂️ I’m not saying that to be racist but it is the truth.

Fantastic memories, Heart cruisers was the first boatyard I went to in 1977 , we had the Ace of Hearts , my Father started his broads adventures after his 2 years national service in 1953 , he had various Cruisers throughout that time. I started my own adventures on one of the fibreglass bathtub design boats called Tropical Heart in 1985 I was very sad to see the Boatyard close down, but always looked out for the Old boats Y415 I could never remember whether it was the King or the Ace of Hearts always used to pop up somewhere on the broads.

Thanks for the video. I've had several holidays on the Norfolk Broads. All quite eventful. But back in the 60's and 70's, when my father was a teacher, he and several of his colleagues used to take a group of school children up to the Broads every Easter (when blankets were often at a premium). They hired several of the boats from Hearts Cruisers. They had great lines. No fibreglass. Just a touch of old world class. Many years later he owned the Queen of Hearts for a time. Perhaps it's still moored up outside one of the many pubs!

Like Vaughan, i also had a wonderful childhood on that island, several decades later though. I used to stumble across foundations in the brambles and wonder what used to be there. What a place to explore as a young'un! It was a sad day when Morning Flight got towed down to Jenners basin. Wish i could have seen it all in it's heyday.
