Hello, informative video. I have a question you may be able to help with. I've been looking for information about finger joints where additional lines are cut into the fingers. I have a box made with laser cut finger joints and the fit is really great without glue. I'd like to know what these lines are called and how they work. I believe they provide a little extra give so that the joint can flex to give a tighter fit but without knowing what they are called it's difficult to confirm.

How is this different from a bunch of other fingerjoint box calculators? Oh, right, this one is not free, the others are. ...

Your tutorials are great!! Have you created a template for Pet ID Tags? Any ideas on how you would go about it if not? I want to create some templates for my elementary/MS summer class to engrave some ID tags for their pets in our laser engraving class.

What machine uses the pen? I have not seen this before? Is this the same machine as a laser machine?

Very cool! Although, in English, which is not my language, I liked your explanations. At 1:53, you show your caliper, so could you say if this caliper is good, and what is the reference for purchasing? There are many on the internet, but some say one thing, others say another. I would like a caliper with satisfactory accuracy, from Aliexpress or Shopee, for example. P.S.: Another thing, the beam width of my laser is 0.08 mm; with this number, do you have any idea which Kerf I should use? Thanks

Great demo - this helped me understand things a little more though I have a long way to go still! I'll share it with my group. This Moon Phase template would be great on the main site to make ornaments, jewellery, etc. with the option of a hole or hanging hole and text etc! Do it!!

Curious why you put 1/2 the kerf on each pc as opposed to the full kerf on just the inlayed pc?
@tobyschachman8751Ай бұрын
Great question! While I think putting a full kerf expand on just the inner piece would probably work for this simple project, putting a half kerf expand on each piece will result in a more precise fit. This will be most important on corners (on curved sections it won't be as big a deal). Another reason: doing a 1/2 kerf on each piece will generalize to doing inlays with more than 2 pieces. If you have an inlay with lots of pieces, you can do an expand of 1/2 kerf on every piece to get a good fit.
@mcagregАй бұрын
@@tobyschachman8751 will this only work if the piece you are cutting is symetrical (like the moon shape)?

Thank you for this video, the idea is great. Please can you tell which model of Glowforge do you use? I tried to cut shapes in silicone rubber 1mm thick with CO2 laser equiped with air compressor, there were almost flames appearing, so not very safe for cutting. Was it easy to cut with Glowforge?
