Timeline: This song was released in November of 1979 on Soho Records. "Shake It Up" by The Cars was released in November of 1981 and became one of their most popular songs: #4 peaking on the Billboard Hot 100/#2 on Billboard Top 200. The blatancy of this plagiarism is enough to make Led Zeppelin blush. I've always wondered why this is never mentioned [even here] nor why it was never pursued legally by MacGowan.

I guess, Shane MacGowan wasn't a type of guy to go around suing people!

RIP Shane McGowan. A genius, a legend and a poet that will never be seen again. Heart goes out to his loved ones, Victoria the measure of his dreams, his Father and sister and the rest of his family. Sad day.

This song has no business being this catchy or timeless. It’s f*cking perfect.

Is anyone else bothered by the missing guitarist? The bass player seems to be pretending to play it by digging in when that distorted raunchy guitar comes in, but that ain’t a bass and it sure isn’t the guy playing the Rickenbacker.
@mattgilbert73477 ай бұрын
Kimble would play distorted bass but yeah, there's some backing track shenanigans. Grant always played a 12-string acoustic.

I saw Grant Lee Philips a few years ago. This was the only song he played that wasn't amazing. Still hoping for a GLB reunion so that I can see this smashing gem in it's finest form. Don't get me wrong, GLP did a great job, but this is one song that goes through the roof with his old band members. I'd also offer up Grant Lee as being the nicest musician I've ever met. After the show came down into the crowd for all of us that wanted "sweaty hugs" or handshakes. Unusually talented, unusually kind and generous.
