I live looking at everyone’s layout trying to find ideas to improve my layout. I also have a ten car Coronation Scot which I love running sround but ut is wasted on this small layout. Go as large as you can handle and if course it is a lifelong hobby. I came to the hobby later in life and now live in Toronto. I agree if you want a big station then you should build it.... I like the idea of changing the locomotive from one end to the other -- Problems I can see is that your station may not long enough. Express trains over 6-8 cars will have to use outside line and longest platform to pass station. Join the two outer lines away from the station giving the appearance of more frequent express services passing and stopping at the station -- perhaps only part of the train stopping for passengers on the longest platform. You have a long way to go and making a 1:1 layout plan maybe the next step. .. If you have one or two lines on the second level that will give further away time for the express and some impression of distance for local services -- stop and go in storage with just enough clearance for the train -- Grading for the trains will be an issue for both express and local trains.... ( minimal drop for the storage loops) Best of luck.

Hi, if you want a large station you must do it, youll only regret it if you dont. I always wanted a large main line terminus station, like London Kings Cross, but space was an issue. However Im currently building a representation of Manchester Piccadilly in N gauge and am so glad I did it, never turned back. So Ive got my terminus and through trains too. The only thing I would advise is keep your curves as long and shallow as possible. Trains dont like sharp tight curves and especially tight ‘S’ bends, also try to use the longest points, you wont regret it. Hoping that helps
@townhilljunction7852 жыл бұрын
Such a great help. I love that your layout has the terminus but also those through lines on the edge I often use myself heading out to the airport. I love the detail you have got in, my worry is with 00 it’ll be just too big but really keen to try it, with yours as inspiration I think I can get there. The curves are a slight issue if I want to run longer trains but even with 3rd radius I should have room to keep a general sweep above that. Thanks any advice is really welcome especially from one of the best!
@piccadillymodelrailways2 жыл бұрын
@@townhilljunction785 Go with your heart, third radius and above will be fine. You did mention the modelling trick of making say 2/3 of the station and the rest goes ‘off scene’ , but you’ve got to decide if you would be TRULY happy with this. It’s oh so easy to regret it going further.
