I found your channel looking for how to make realistic concrete roads for a diorama of Brooklands racetrack I want to make. Then I ended up watching you build and paint the window. My first house had a wooden garage that had a window that looked exactly like this. Right down to the old white paint and grime and mould.

Hi Can you explain why you use dental plaster instead of regular plaster.is it less brital?
@JeffReiten
@JeffReiten 2 ай бұрын
Hey @shipyard44444 , Yeah You can use both but I have found that dental stone is stronger, can be cast in thinner sections and doesnt break down while painting.....Plaster has a tendency to break down while painting or in some cases you will loose detail just by touching or holding plaster pieces..dental stone is very tough and really holds detail thru all of this

Hello Jeff, Don't want to bug you, and I hope you are fit and well, but when will you be posting another of your amazing and excellently detailed video's again please ? I have always found your tips on creating effects and details to be some of the best on the whole of KZfaq. It is difficult to learn some aspects of modeling, especially when certain modelers want to keep them as their own "secret effect" as one model maker put it. But I have found you to be an excellent source of learning and your detailed explanations are always exact and easy to follow and understand. So please, when are you posting again ?

Hey @shawn-mariecook7789 ... Thank You!!!..I just filter backyard dirt through a coffee filter and jar...rubberband coffee filter on top of jar - add dirt and then pour water over it..filters into bottom of jar...then I just let it dry..after a day or so you have finely filtered dirt...if you cant do that one of the many pigments out there will work great too.

How thick is your plaster road?
@JeffReiten
@JeffReiten 10 ай бұрын
Hey @Craig!...I ve used a few different thicknesses depending on the scale I'm working on.- 1/16th inch or .040 styrene strip will give you the best overall results for any scale...this depth allows the Tulle material to be embedded but leaves the road thin enough to be easily crackable for weathering.

You are a master! So many great techniques! Thanks for all your great videos illustrating your methods! I’m trying my best to replicate this one at a larger scale on canvas. Thanks @thomasbanks4792!!!..You are more than Welcome! glad you are Enjoying them!..in the end i want most of the salt removes-or as much as I can get off- Basically first layer of salt acts as mask to bare wood ..then I just layer up paint and salt - and paint and salt..each layer of salt will mask the color, colors below it..then the fun part of scraping the salt and the paint that is stuck to the salt/mask off to reveal a cool effect!..hope this helps if you have any other questions just let me know..Thanks again for the kind compliments!!....Jeff

Jeff, this is the most realistic chippy, layered effect! Amazing👏😍 Looks like white paint was dry before placing wood on wax paper. Is that correct? Also, were you just adding a little water to paint alone or and can you explain the last step, the enamel/thinner and what that does? I have tried so many techniques and mediums to try to achieve that true organic look of antique, aged layers upon layers of paint and you did it with this! Thanks for sharing!
@JeffReiten
@JeffReiten Жыл бұрын
Hey fabNforgotten!! 😮😁 Thank You!! - You are Correct..I let the paint dry on the waxpaper before applying the flat finish clear acrylic paint to the wood which then act like the glue to pull the dried paint off the the waxpaper.....I added a little water to the light blue paint just so it would "bead up" and create a kinda chipped paint effect ..then repeated the flat finish on wood to act as glue..this time I flicked the paint on the wood....For the final effect after all the layering of Acrylic paint I then thinned some enamel paint with thinner for a final wash effect to bring out detail and kind of pull everything together..I use the enamel paint and thinner so it wont effect the acrylic paint...let me know if you have anymore questions...Good Luck and Thanks Again for the Kind Compliments!!!!
