The colour palette for the C64/128 should be fixed in firmware 1.11 (no ETA as yet). It might also include support for the NES :-D

regarding your shopping list, the macro lens attachment link shows OOS now, which Immediately brought up about fifty different vendor listings all with the same stock image.With prices radically spread all over the map, 18 to 40 or worse. But, every single time I picked the lowest priced vendor, there's a more than 50% chance of my missing the, "$34.99 shipping". when the ones two bucks more show free shipping.

IMPORTANT: It is recommended to use the "AT28C64" profile and not the "AT28C64E" as shown in the video. The "E" profile uses tighter programming cycles and can occasionally fail to program the NEAT2364

man... I just cannot see the appeal of using an HDMI screen to run an NES on. This thing should be run on a CRT, really. Very cool, shoving the signal through that jack, but this thing is just too old for this to be proper.

Nice, I might follow this at some point. I've kept my rev5 A500 on 1.3 while my A1200 is on latest. But, I've toyed with the idea of upgrading my 500 to latest too. At least now I know how to do the board fix without needing those adapters 👍

I made some changes on my device and now I have HDR, VRR, 1440p, and the Shadow Mask effect, which is cool. However, I haven't quite figured out the new HDMI VIC functionality yet. Whenever I change it, the HDMI output starts acting strangely. Do you know what the HDMI VIC is supposed to do?
@TheRetroChannel
@TheRetroChannel 2 күн бұрын
It's a compatibility feature rather than a feature feature. From the junkerhq wiki: Default HDMI VIC Selects Video Format Identification Code (VIC) which is indicated on HDMI AVI Infoframe for preset modes which do not have VIC specificed. Can be used to work around devices (switches/displays) that do not accept default VIC (0) indicating unknown mode. 0-31: VIC value. Try setting 2 (480p60) with problematic sinks. [default=0]

It has been a long time but I remember the Kickstart 2.04 upgrade kit came with a wire soldered between two of the pins on the ROM. I recall that for A2000's and newer A500's, the wire was supposed to be cut but left in-place for older A500's. Doing a search, it appears this wire shorted pins 1 and 31.
@TheRetroChannel
@TheRetroChannel 3 күн бұрын
Sounds correct. On the mask rom Commodore used, I believe pin 31 is not connected inside the chip. So connecting a wire from 1 (where A17 should be) to 31 (where A17 is on the older boards) would correct this issue. Of course this was fixed on newer boards so leaving that wire would have tied A17 to VCC

Good memory as that is exactly right. My upgrade came with the same with a big warning sticker about the wire. I am sure Commodore got a few fried 2.04 ROMs returned from people that didn't read the directions. haha.

A while ago i sold 3 512k trap door ram expansions for the Amiga 500 as faulty cause they did not work on my Rev6A A500. I got about $10 each for them and the buyer was happy as they messaged me in delight and told me that the ram expansions work. Some months had passed and i tried another ram expansion that i know works and that too did not get recognized by my A500. I have a 2 meg ram expansion that plugs into the side expansion port and that works fine. What could be causing My Rev6A A500 to not see the trap door Ram expansions??

Could be as simple as bad contacts on the connector, or as complicated as a ram select logic fault

Hi, I built one of your rf modulators and installed it in my 1986 breadbin 64 with longboard 250425. It improved composite video, but there is a lot of colour smearing at the s-video output. I tried 2 different tv, 2 different cable, and 2 different psu, but all of them had the same effect. What did I do wrong, and what should I check for?

Hmm ok. Double check the component values are correct in the chroma path - they are the two resistors on the left side of the board, and the 3 capacitors and 2 resistors nearest the transistor in the middle of the board. If everything is correct, then you could try removing the 330pF capacitor
@TUSIP
@TUSIP 5 күн бұрын
@TheRetroChannel I crosscheck component values with an empty pcb I had. All of them were fine. I removed the 330pF capacitor and it made screen so blurry so I installed it back. I noticed something odd, I'm using a lcd tv for testing, and sometimes it detects the output of 64 as black and white, not colour. I have an oscilloscope, so you can tell me the things I could check. Also my transistors are 2n2222A, could this be the problem?
@TheRetroChannel
@TheRetroChannel 4 күн бұрын
The 2n2222a is the same as a 2n2222. First thing to check with the scope would be the chroma output. It should be around 300mVp-p with the machine powered on and s-video connected (I assume you're using the svideo connector and not the C64 din connector?). You can measure it at the top side of R1. Btw, if you use discord, there's a link to mine in the video description.

For my understanding: The VIC-II-dizer sniffs on the digital lines (data, adress and so on)? So it must basically a nearly full reimplementation of a VIC II to reproduce the video signal or am I wrong? If I want to install a HDMI solution wouldn't it be better to route out digital signals to an HDMI signal generator? That should need six lines for the C64 (16 colours = 4 lines, clock and sync) and no fine tuning to synchronize the HDMI generator on it. Or do I get anything wrong? If you have one HDMI generator you share between different machines the LumaCode idea has its charme and saves mones, that's clear.

add low temp solder and flux to the pads. it will reduce the melting point to about 130 deg C and then you can use hot air or soldering iron. For the bad condition boards it is the safest

When I was about 12, I got put on restriction for skipping school and part of that restriction meant I wasn't allowed to play video games. I dug out an old black and white TV from the back of my closet to try and sneak some nintendo but the TV was so old that it had no connectors built in to it. All it had was 2 screws for a twin lead wire that you could hook up to an antenna. I stripped the ends on a small bit of twin lead and shoved the frayed wires into the back of the Nintendo's AV port. It had a bit of static and you had to keep the wires shoved in there just right but Mario was back in business.

Is that additional signal the only difference between old on OSSC and new one? What wonders me is why the jailbars are no longer present. BTW. Do you have by chance workig upper head for C128? Mine have that flexible support broken.

@TheRetroChannel 9 күн бұрын
Doing the wire mod does disable the 2nd LED on the OSSC. Its functionality is restored on the v1.8 boards, but apart from that there is practically no difference. There are no jailbars as the video (Lumacode) is grenerated by the VIC-IIe digitizer. The OSSC or RGBtoHDMI is required to decode (and scale) the Lumacode signal. And no, no spare drive heads sorry.
